I have some jewelry (a few diamond rings and bracelets) I am interested in selling...nothing incredible...just stuff I've inherited over the years. I know I could get more money for it selling it on ebay or consigning it but I would rather just sell it outright. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a fair and honest jewelry buyer (hope that's not an oxymoron) in NYC?

Try to take good photos and list it on Loupetroop and DiamondBistro you will get more for it than selling it to a dealer and if you need help enlist one of the valuers on here in the drop down resources list to help write valuations and act as a go between if needed when you sell the items.

If it is Antique jewellery sometimes people like Erica at Love Affair Diamonds and Grace at Jewels by Grace will buy it outright or indeed they do take things on consignment. If you need to sell it fast all you do is keep lowering the price after consigning each item or for that matter listing it on Loupetroop or Diamond Bistro yourself, until it sells.

Hi Ks and welcome!

Arkie's right, you'd probably get very little - around 30 - 50% of the actual value depending on what you have from a dealer. You'd probably do far better listing at the sites she mentions, if you're not in a rush for the money, you'd get more in the end.

The others might have some suggestions with a bit of time, the only other thing I can think of is that www.goodoldgold.com sell estate jewellery, they're in Long Island and it might be worth giving them a call.

Thanks for the suggestions. In case I want to just sell would you stay away from 47th street?

Are the rings a modern style or Antique? That will impact where I'd suggest you take them.

I would personally unless someone here can advise you who to try, it's just very difficult for the novice to know who to go to.

I’m general, 47th Street is bad news for the uninitiated. I feel sorry feeling r people who fall prey to the “sharks”
But if one knows where to look, there are honest buyers and sellers there.

Can you recommend one? Does your company buy?
