I would like to purchase my diamond from someone
who:

1. has great prices
2. has quality diamonds
3. *Must Set Stones In Front of Customer (I would bring my setting to him/her)
4. will be around for possible trade up years from now (if possible ?)
5. does not diamond enhance stones

I am looking for a super sparkly one carat (or look of) stone
D color, Excell Cut, Excell Polish, No Flour. , eye clean
and GIA lab. Diamond must sparkle with no movement.
Do Not want eightstar stones or hearts and arrows, I just
don''t prefer them is all.

Can anyone give me a few contact names?

Thank you!!!!

I''m skeptical anyone would be available for #3, but you could ask; I''ve not seen it asked here before.

Frankly, it''s possible if they say yes to you, you should be less interested in them, because of the time they''d be willing to spend on your project with you, but I have no idea for sure. Maybe some setter would do this for you, and you could be directed to them.

Otherwise, I think those regularly referenced here would all qualify, with GOG getting special mention, and also including Excel Diamonds, Engagement Rings Direct, James Allen.

I can''t answer the questions above based on your critera however the reputable people that I would suggest in the diamond district are:

-Mark T. From engagement rings direct. He''s not on the street level so you would have to call for an appointment

-Michael F. and Co. They are on the north side of the near corner coming off of 5th ave. A friend of mine got her 4ct. round from them and has it set in a HW replica from them and the work rivals that of Leon Mege. it is gorgeous. They are small though and do not offer and online store. I don''t think anyone else here has experience with them. Their pave work is amazing.

-I haven''t worked with them or been to their store but there are PSers that have refered people to ID Jewelry and have had great experiences.

I hope that helps.

Most diamond dealers use sub-contractors for setting work. The reason is that the skill set and tools required for being a setter are substantially different from those required for a seller. If they’re trying to keep the overhead down (which relates to their ability to offer great prices), it makes sense to avoid the overhead of operating a shop and simply hire one out when they need it on an ala-carte basis. Nearly all will have a long term relationship with a setter for this kind of work. Similarly, most shops don't really have the sort of facilities to allow a consumer to stand there and watch the work. By your presence, YOU are a security risk with regard to their other clients work. If your concern is about stone switching after you buy it, make it a requirement that you have the opportunity to inspect the stone AFTER the setting job and before you pay. You may also want to make the deal contingent on a final inspection by YOUR chosen expert after the job is completed. This also catches craftsmanship problems and damage that may have occurred during the setting process (which are far more common than stone switching by the way).

Eightstar is a brand and is only sold by their dealers. If you don’t want one, they are easy enough to avoid, even if you’re shopping with one of those dealers. As far as I know, they all have other things for sale as well.

It sounds like you already have a setting please tell us about it as this will determine what kind of stone you are looking for.
It is usually better to have the setting fit the stone not the other way around but with simple settings that may not be a problem.

If you have the time you should get out to Goodoldgold.com in Long Island. They will be the only place that can show you vintage round diamonds optimized for light performance example http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6806/.
You stated you don''t want hearts and arrows but all modern round brilliants are cut in the style, just the ones without perfect symmetry only show imperfect arrows and hearts.

My Reccomendation for round brilliants would be GOG or would be James Allen or Mark at Engagement Rings direct(in Manhatten) as they have good prices and the tools you will need to make the best decision on a round brilliant.

As for the setting part these are very trustworthy PS vendors who are under a great degree of scrutiny from this community and have been known to be trustworthy from years in the business so I wouldn''t worry about the setting in front of you requirement as that would be difficult for any jeweler to do. Some may have benchman in the back who can do the work while you wait but I think you would probably have to leave the setting fo a day or so and pick up the ring.

Good-luck,
CCL

On 48th St is "SecureIdeals Jewelry", google the name in quotes and you will find the telephone number.
Bought from them a few years ago, very happy, excellent ongoing customer support.
Ask for Megan.
