Best nailpolish colors...

And see, there is the rub... colored nail polish chips so fast! When I wore the french it was esy to touch up the tips and get about 2 weeks out of it. But with color I will have to do my nails so often! I am not sure I am up for that!
When my nails are longer, they chip much faster, so if I grow them out a little, I stick with sheer colors. Plus, I think that long, colored nails looks really dated. If I wear color, I trim my nails pretty short, so there''s almost no white visible. With such a short nail, they don''t chip for several days. I also apply a top coat - my favorites are Poshe and Orly''s In a Snap. I like how both topcoats surface-dry wet polish in minutes, and they certainly help add shine and longevity. You know how polish can go dull after a couple of days? If you apply another topcoat, it will look like new. Some people swear by Seche Vite, but I''ve tried several bottles of it, and keep going back to the others.

Here''s a pic of my short nails (but honestly, I like them even shorter than this length):

And here they are a little longer with sheer polish:

Opi is my favorite too. I like light, shimmery colors that don't really show when you chip your nails, which you will. My absolute favorite is Off the Record Pink. It's a pale, pale pink. So pretty.

ETA: Off the Record Pink is not OPI. It's Station 24. Just googled it.

hey cell, i like your OK stamp!

I love Essie's Allure ( a pale pink)-its my favorite. Wicked (also Essie) is great for a darker color- I'll wear it in the fall/winter.

Essie's 'Pink Glove Service' is a long-time favorite for a natural but polished look...it's a sheer pink but not frosted or too 'much'...it just makes the pinks of your nails look even more pink. Love it.

I love OPI's colors and a polish job lasts a long time for me. Whenever you polish nails, make sure you wash and scrub them first to get the natural oils off. It will make a polish peel within a few days otherwise!

ETA...Someone else mentioned 'I'm Not Really a Waitress' --its an OPI color not an Essie. It's my favorite red ever for an olive skin tone! I love wearing it at holidays.

I think you should base the nail color on your own skin undertones. If you turn over your wrist, the color of your veins will tell you what you are. Blue veins mean that you should stick with blue based colors (cool toned pinks for example). If your veins appear green, select warmer shades of color.

A wee hint about avoiding chipping. I got this tip from another forum and have used it ever since. Sounds long but I can do it in under half an hour before going to bed and then like SDL (I think) said remove any mistookies in the shower.

Its called a sticky sandwich. These are the products I use. I also file and use a buffer on my nails prior to painting. It gives a better surface for the polish to adhere too.

1. Apply OPI - Chip Skip - this takes off any oil and leaves a perfectly clean surface. Apply next step immediately.
2. Apply Orly Bonder - a rubberized basecoat. Apply next step immediately.
3. Apply a thin layer of polish. Wait 2 minutes till next step.
4. Repeat step 3 but also paint the nail tip to seal in polish. Wait 2 minutes till next step.
5. Apply Orly bonder on top of polish. Also paint nail tip. Wait 2 minutes till next step.
6. Apply OPI RapidDry Topcaot.
7. Wait one minute then I spray my nails with Elegant Touch Rapid Dry Spray. Within a few minutes they are touch dry. I try to give it at least half an hour before going to bed. In the morning your nails will be perfect after the excess has come off naturally in the shower due to your own body''s oils.

Sounds long but once you get into it, it is fine. I get a week out of mine and I am a SAHM who is HARD on her hands. Gloves for washing up and housework where possible though!!!
