Best karat for unplated band with rhodium plated ring?

Hi, :wavey:

Reading around the Internet this seems to be the place for setting/jewellery discussion and questions.

Please forgive me if I have come to the wrong place

The world of jewellery leaves me very uncertain at times. My lovely partner bought me a spiffy 18k white gold engagement ring. It is super shiny so I feel safe in assuming it is rhodium plated. It has a halo and is very low set, which I love for practicality...except when it comes to fitting a wedding band with it. I don't love ring wraps, so they aren't an option.

Long story short, I would love to wear my engagement ring with a (very flat) matte yellow gold band. I know that's not 'classic', but I like the contrast.

Initially I was worried the wedding ring might wear away at the setting (basket?), so I figured 18k goes with 18k, both being comparatively soft (vs the more common 14k), but then I read that rhodium itself is very hard, so...maybe that will scratch up the band :wall: so I guess my question is, given that my 18k engagement ring will always be rhodium plated, what karat should my unplated wedding band be?

Many thanks in advance!

Go with the 18k ring. It will get scratched no matter what metal you use, just polish it when you have your reign polished and rhodiumed
