Okay so, some people don''t care for giftcards. I''m not one of them... but to each their own.

What is the best non-giftcard gift someone can give you...

Under $20

Under $10

For me the answer to both is a cut flowers or a plant. I''m not a fan of candles. I only like two types of bath products. And scarves and mittens and things like that don''t do anything for me.

Wine glasses or accessories
plants (indoor or outdoor)
books

Wine
Magazine subscription
Chocolate
Coffee
Tea
Local specialties (honey, syrup, jam etc)
Notepaper/ Magnetic "to do" lists
Soaps

Chocolate
Baked goods
Other yummy food items
Little cosmetic items (lip gloss, nail polish, etc.)
Soft things to keep me warm
Flowers

Books or movies I like.
Cookies/sweets
Art supplies (pencils, papers, kneaded erases are a fav..)

Book
Wine
Something novel or unique that I couldn''t think to put on a list for myself if someone asked.

Hmmm... I'm going to have to expand my list thanks to everyone else's great ideas.

Teas from Teavana or Harney and Son and Tea accesorries
Wine
Chocolate
Fancy soaps

My favorite less expensive gift is a giftcard to Barnes and Noble... but the point of this was to NOT list giftcards.

Books
Candles
Chocolate
Music

CD''s
Movies
Books
Candles
Candy
Home baked goods (cookies, rolls, bread, brownies)
Wine
Coffee Mugs
Calendars
Crystal dish

chocolate
coffee
books
make-up bag
hat and gloves (am always losing them!)
slippers

Books!
Chocolate
Coffee
Wine
Slippers/blankets/throws
Glasses/coffee mugs
Toys for the kitties!

I just remembered that one of my favorite jewelry 'boxes' was a gift from a friend. It's a travel jewelry folded case... lovely green fabric. I use that sucker a lot. Great gift. Especially for a PSer.

Toys for kitties is a GREAT reminder, BEG!

Kitchen stuff-such as a nice serving platter or mixing bowl or muffin tins or......any nice kitchen stuff.
Small cosmetics such a lip glass and nail polish, brushes etc
food stuffs- wine/small spirits, baked goods, yummy loose leaf teas etc
A gossip mag (don''t buy them myself but I like to read them when they''re there)
A book
Cut flowers
A nice photo frame
Anything thoughtful

I don''t like candles or anything that creates clutter and dosn''t "do" anything, don''t like soaps or anything overly sented.

Book readers, what kind of books do we give if we don''t know what they like to read or are you speaking of people we know really well?

I go for books with alot of "awards" on the cover, good reviews or quotes from reputable and recognisable sources and things from book stores "top 100" lists. This all means the book is popular and alot of people enyjoyed it, so chances are the person I''m giving it to will enjoy it also. Just incase, I get an exchange card too.

I would only buy a book for someone if I knew them well enough to know what they read. Otherwise... giftcard to a bookstore. I'm a voracious reader... but that means that I've read A LOT of stuff that's out there (if it's by an author I like... I've read it) already, so chances of getting me something by someone I like, that I haven't read, are slim. And chances you will find me something I like by an author I haven't read are slimmer-- unless it's a genre I'm just starting to explore or that I like, but don't read often-- like mystery (I only like the funny cozy ones though).

Since I just assume most readers are like me, so I'd rather get them a gift card.

Small beauty items
Small hair accessories
Travel sizes of nice toiletries (since I''m on the road so much for work)
Chocolate

I would avoid anything too personal unless you really know the person. For example I don''t drink tea, coffee or that much alcohol. If I were to pick out a gift for myself it would be...

nice lotion
pretty cards/stationary
picture frame or album
chocolate
flowers in a pretty vase
books
nail polish or beauty products
something cute for T

wine
chocolate
dessert

Book
CD
Wine
Champagne flutes
Earrings
Something home-made. I have a friend that made everyone bath stuff one year and another year she pickled and canned stuff from her garden.

Recipe book holder
cupcake book
socks :)
Pyrex dish with lid

HI:

Diffiicult!

Gourmet jam/jellies, pure maple syrup
book
ethical giving on my behalf is generally the best

cheers-Sharon

Gardening tool
Jewelry cleaner
Good cheese or Chocolate
Cutting board any size
Funny Apron
BBQ gadget
A Family recipe is my all-time fave

Coffee
Books
Design Magazines
iTunes card (I know, I know!)
Tea
Chocolates
I LOOOVE fresh Flowers
Burts Bees Lip Balm

The fastest way to my heart is a box of Goo Goo Clusters . . . OMG!

Books that I would give would depend on the person. I would get a church-lady something inspirational, a traveler would receive a beautiful book of a certain state or something, a man may receive a handyman type book, cars, etc, a friend would get a good novel unless they had a particular interest.

When I receive books, I get lots of first editions (which I collect) I also get lots of books on different religions, woodworking, gardening because those are my hobbies.

I''m a candle person and give those along with candle holders
lotions
fun baking kits - I give these to kids. . .such as a gingerbread cookie mix and attach a gingerbread cookie cutter to the package
bath soap/bubble bath
oven mitt

I don''t give out plants - one thing I read is that some people feel guilty if the plant doesn''t do too well
Also, I don''t give alcohol related items unless I know the person well enough to know what they like, especially since I''ve been given wine and do not drink that.

How about a good hug and telling you that you are special....

Yup! Love it. And use it often. And everytime another PS sees it, they want one.

Thank you again Tacori!

Nope. Doesn't do anything for me. Just smiile, wave, and keep your arms where I can see them. LOL.

I love gift cards, but the best non GC gift would be:

chocolate/baked goods
books
flowers

And Rachel -- I love your idea of a family recipe!
