Hi Everyone,
Justwondering if I can get some advice. Hoping to buy a 1.5 carat round cut diamond for a solitare ring. Basically I want to know what clarity and colour I should go for. How noticable are the inclusions in VS1 and Vs2- will these be very noticable when set? Also the colour thing for non diamond experts- is G going to look yellow? I have yet to look at stones- just researching at the moment!

Hi LP and welcome!

Your best bet is to start reading this advanced tutorial, as this should be of help to you.

As to colour and clarity, it is a personal preference - generally VS1 and VS2 should be eyeclean in the size you are considering, even some SI clarity could be. A reliably graded ( GIA or AGS) G colour will not look yellow, indeed even H, I and J are plenty white for some people. If you can look at some well cut diamonds in person - I would suggest Hearts on Fire or AGS0 cut grade, so you can see what your preferences actually are. It is CUT which gives a diamond it''s beauty, so you need to decide whether you want what we call a superideal which you may often find as hearts and arrows, which is cut to the most exacting standards for maximum light return ( sparkle), or a nice make of diamond which is well cut, but perhaps not to the tightest degree.

I hope this helps start you off!

Ditto! Get out and see some stones, and make sure you look at them under natural lighting (by a window/outside), as jewelers lights will hide things very well.
