I''ve just upgraded to a 3.02 ct oval for a center stone (.36 ct pears on each side) on my engagement ring. There is an indented natural right where the girdle is extremely thin and I''ve read conflicting things about whether the stone should be set with a prong OVER the area for protection, or to AVOID that area because a blow to the prong would transfer force directly to the fragile part of the stone. I''m going to have the ring reset anyway (the "jeweler" that I got it from really butchered my original setting in an effort to fit this much larger stone in the center) but want to go to someone REALLY good who can evaluate the stone and set it in the best possible way considering these factors. I hear great things about Dimend Scaasi on Wabash (about 2 blocks from my office) but any and all recommendations would be much appreciated!
