What is the best jewelry/watch cleaner. Cleanest, fastest, ect..

I like to use an ultrasonic cleaner followed by a blast of steam from my Jewel Jet home steamer! Gets things real glimmery!

Ooooh - now I''ve got to look into getting one of those steam thingys. I''ve got an small ultrasound that I think does a pretty good job. Question though - how long do you leave your rings in for? I''ve been doing a quick 5 min.

I''ve heard good things about the Sharper Image US, and they offer a replacement policy, which is really good to have it you use it every day. In general, US machines seem to break a lot, so if a store offers an extended warranty or replacement policy, I would definitely buy it.

ionic looked cool too. claims to take like 60sec

I''ve read positive recommendations for this ultrasonic cleaner:

This is the one I have. You don''t really need the heat function. You can just use hot water when you clean. I use hot water + Mr. Clean (brand name has no ammonia)+ Dawn dish detergent. Works great for me.

I have the Salton Jewelry Spa. It has steam and heat. My ring sparkles like mad after I use it. I have found my ring always looks its best when it is steamed after cleaning. Then I dry it with a coffee filter for a lint free finish. I have heard many good things about the Jewel Jet steamer too.

I have a refurb SI Ultrasonic and a JJ steam clean. My jewelry looks as good as it does after the jewelers clean them. I usually only pull out the JJ on weekends - it doesn''t take much time I just don''t like leaving it on my counter.

Okay, so do these ultrasonics or Jewel Jet (steamer) cleaners really work better than a soak in Conoissers and a good rinse, or a bath in Dawn and Mr. Clean? Do you guys slather your hands and rings with hand lotion or get them really dirty or what? It seems I always take my rings off and only wear them "out". Do you wear your rings all the time? I am paranoid about getting it dirty! (it''s new, still

).

Also, what do you do when you travel? I went to Denver last week so I took some Conoissers which I transferred to a travel-sized spray bottle for a quick wash before I met friends for dinner. Of course it leaked (i wrapped it up in baggies, tho). What do you for clean jewels whilst travelling?

It just seems though, that I get my jewelry clean with the regular jewelry cleaner. When I go to the jeweler, I do ask for their steam job and it does seem even more sparkly then. But my rings are hardly dirty. I cringe when I have to wash my hands and get soap film all over them but I''m trying to overcome that stupidity.

Yes, I believe the US really does work better than the Connoissers, which I use in between weekly US cleanings. On my solitaire, it''s noticeable, but on my 5 stone, it''s really noticeable! I wear my eternity band and 5 stone constantly, but take off my solitaire when I''m just around the house. I do wash and shower with rings on, it helps keep them clean.

I don''t travel with my "real" jewellery. You could just bring along an old soft toothbrush and use shampoo or something. It wouldn''t risk any leakage.

like lyra, i use the ultrasonic weekly and the connoissers daily. they make a travel sized bottle in gel form that you can take with you when you can''t bring the jar. it''s the way to go!
