Folks,

I am new to this forum and let me begin by saying what a great help this place is! I have been a lurker for a week and I have learnt more about diamonds in this week than I ever knew before!

The general consensus seems to be that the SuperbCert classic tiffany setting is better than the WhiteFlash one. However I have never seen any comment about the blue nile nouveau 6-prong solitaire setting and how close it is to the original. The one I am talking about is this - http://www.bluenile.com/platinum-engagement-ring-setting_12964

Also, any ideas if BN sets the prongs low enough so that no gap is visible below the diamond? If anyone can post sample pics of this setting, that would be awesome!

I would have preferred SuperbCert/Excel diamonds option but they seem to be in holiday and I would need to order asap. :-( The WF setting is good too, but I cannot get the setting alone from WF and I am not getting the right diamond from their collection.

Thanks in Advance!!

The bn one doesn''t look like it''s a knife edge, like the original tiffany setting (at least to my eyes).

I was looking for the 6 prong tiffany knife edge setting and decided on Union Diamond''s: http://www.uniondiamond.com/jewelry/jewelry.php?item_id=943&action_type_id=2&pic_name=&shape_id=

I did do a direct comparison of UD''s and Tiffany''s. Tiffany''s is much thicker and has a little more detail around the top edge of the band before it meets the prongs. Of course, Tiffany''s is probably triple the cost of UD''s.

By itself, UD''s looks fantastic, and being a little skinnier makes the diamond look bigger!

Blue Nile will not sell you the setting without a diamond purchase also.

Thanks Sam82 and Mystra, I think I will skip the BN route.

And thanks Zabak80 for suggesting the uniondiamond setting. Any comparisons of UD setting with the WF? I know SuperbCert seems to be the closest match!

Here is the Whiteflash: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Classic-Tiffany-Style-Knife-Edge_1137.htm#

I haven''t seen it in person, but comparing the stats (width, size) to the UD ring, the WF looks closest to the Tiffany. I did spend some time looking at the Tiffany setting at the store and have it burned in my brain.

Of course, it depends on your budget. The UD is $700, the WF is $1,300. If budget is of no concern, I would go with the WF.

Here is the Excel: http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engagement-Rings-5/Solitaire-Diamond-Engagement-Rings-11/Tiffany-Engagement-Rings-640.html . A little more expensive.

The UD ring is really nice and a perfect size for my fiancees size 4.25 finger, however, it is not an exact replica due to size and the tapering near the primary setting. It is a FABULOUS ring though and a perfect 6 prong.

Of course, with those three choices, I would simply get the setting with whoever you purchase the diamond from! All 3 are great vendors.

Thanks Zabak80!

Of course budget is a concern and the 600$ will go some distance in getting a better diamond! I am going to go with the UD setting as my fiancees fingers are a size 5 and I dont want a overpowering setting as compared to the 0.6-0.7 diamond.

Thanks again!!

Let me know if you want me to post some pictures of it for you on a real live finger.
