Hello, I found this forum today and thought I would find good advice here. I will try to make it short. I don''t know much about diamonds or rings. I have had the same ring for a year and a half. I think it is just an engagement ring, but I wear it as a wedding ring. I like it that way. It is a gold band with a diamond at the top. The size is 3 1/2, and the diamond is .25 or .23 (don''t remember). I have a book somewhere with all of the information (registry #, color, etc.). The ring itself only cost $150, the diamond was 5 or 6 hundred.

Yesterday a prong bent (there are 6 of them). I believe they are platinum. I have been looking on the internet to see how much it would cost to get it fixed (don''t want to get ripped off by jeweler). I couldn''t find much, but estimate it would cost about $200? I would really like to know for sure, a good estimate anyway. I don''t remember how much it cost to get the diamond put on the ring in the first place. I am thinking that maybe it was free with the purchase of the ring? If so, it would be cheaper to get a whole new ring.

I should mention that we were supposed to take the ring back and have it inspected every few months or so but did not, so there really isn''t any warranty.

Thank you, experts! :)

Brooke, I had a bent prong straightened about six months ago on my engagement ring. I took it to a local jeweler I''d never been to before and they charged $18.
