For those who have tried bellydancing could you share your experiences. Also if anyone can recommend good DVDs that would be great too. I know this probably belongs in the Healthier Lifestyle forum but I figure more people will see it here.

There''s a program on FitTV called Shimmy that I used to do. You can dvr it and try it at your leisure. In the program, they demonstrate various movements and then link them together at the end to make a little dance. It''s definitely an ab workout and it''s fun!

I took a class a few years ago and loved it. Super fun, not too physically challenging but makes your abs feel good and helps your digestive system a lot

I took a class a few years ago plus I had friends in Dubai who were natual belly dancers (local Arabs, boy do those gorgeous women know how to work their hips!). I bought a belly dancing belt in Dubai too - the scarf with the bells - and it makes it SO much more fun.

I liked the ones from these 2

Easy to follow and a good pace.

I used to go to classes locally and it is good fun but stopped because it became a bit too difficult to get to - I wasn''t driving at the time. I still have the costume and would like to take it up again.

I took a class when I was pregnant with my younger daughter. It was a great way to keep moving without being too strenuous, and it really helped me feel good about my changing body.

I''d like to take it up again, but the classes near me aren''t at a good time. Maybe someday...

I''ve been dancing, on and off for about 8 years. I took this semester off, but will return to classes in September :) I love it - it''s a lot of fun and depending on the type of class, can be strenuous too

Thanks everyone for the responses so far.
