i think she spend < $100 per year on herself since we got married.

But is she too cheap to even pay attention?

You need a girlfriend. :Up_to_something:

Just kidding.

I can't take these threads seriously. :snore:

MRS DF, we adore you and hope you are spending more than that on yourself. But if that's what is fine for you, that's great. We try to keep MR. Dancingfire in check..

New year, new you... :))

Hope to hear from YOU!!!! :wavey:

she thinks... $20 is too much for a pair of jeans.
$20 is too much for a haircut.
$20 is too much for a pair of sneakers.

$20 for Jeans?
$20 for a hair cut??

Surely your daughters will show her the way...

How about you take her out, for a day on the town DF...Buy her new clothes and get her hair done...Show her she is worth every penny...

i don't want to give her the wrong idea...

Awww maybe get her a gift card to a spa or something?

If she is the low maintenance type, that might send her into a panic!

What is your question, exactly?

Is she really, really old? Like "lived through the depression" old? Just a joke! :D

Do NOT talk to my DH about any of this, DF! He might get ideas . . .

As long as she's happy, that's all that matters...

We all hope her boy toy is taking very good care of her. :naughty:

nahh...mine ran out of battery many yrs ago... ;(

My husband says the same thing about me. We were joking about how cheap I am and my husband gave me $200 and dared me to go buy myself a pair of shoes. I found a perfectly good pair for $12, which he thought was hilarious.

I don't think my grandmother ever spent as much as $100 a year on herself, that would seem profligate to her. She wasn't cheap though, by any means. She just got her kicks from spoiling her children and grandchildren, rather than herself. She loved to treat us and had no real need for stuff. A lot of her money went to charity and a lot of her time went to her church.

Some of my nicest things belonged to her - gifts that she received over the years and put away 'for best' with all her treasures. While I treasure them too, I make a point of using them, because life is so short.

Maybe rather than being cheap, your wife just has less interest than many in personal possessions and grooming? From what you've said in the past, you are both generous towards your children.

Im very similar to your wife DF and you, NEL. I also have a hard time spending over 20 dollars for a haircut (why should I, my haircut isnt complicated, its literally just trimming of an inch, no layers or anything it takes them 20 minutes, max) , I will not spend money on spa days or anything like that, and I also like ahem, bargain shopping. Its a combo of me being cheap, and preferring to spend the money on things *I* actually care about. Like traveling, and really good kitchen equipment, things like that. I am not cheap when it comes to those things, or certain things that DH is into.

My husband would consider you a very lucky man DF! I can be very frugal but $100 a year? You must have married
a nudist who has natural beauty! Not having to purchase clothes and/or make-up would help me get closer to $100 a year
(if I actually wanted to do that...which I dont !)

Agreed. Though I do spend money on my hair since I started going grey. It's just a difference in priorities. I would never spend much money on clothes, but will book a trip to Europe in a heartbeat without an ounce of guilt. I'm old enough to know exactly what makes me happy and gladly include those things in my budget.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. DF - I don't believe you! I think you're making this up!!! If she thinks $20 is too much for jeans, then how many pairs does she own? You can't even find $20 jeans at TJ MAXX! Her clothes must be falling apart if she spends less than $100 since you guys got married.

The haircut - well, I do know a lot of gals who cut their own hair, so no comment there.

Sneakers - again, don't know where she could be getting shoes that cheap...

But, my real thought is if she has only spent $100, she must either be running around in clothes with holes in them, not wearing clothes AT ALL, or lieing to you. OOOORRRR, you're out shopping for her while she's at work??? lol

In another thread, you said you don't know how much your wife makes. I think she makes lots and is hiding stuff from you! ;) lol

No doubt...what about face creams and all that stuff?

Okay, maybe DF likes to shop at Sephora :) lol

I'm similar to your wife DF.....other than my shoe fetish. If you take away what I spend on shoes, I'd be able to live on $100 for the year. The $100 would probably all go to mascara (my second fetish).

I don't wear trendy stuff, all my clothes in my closet I've had for years, I get one haircut a year, and never color it, I still have shiny dark brown hair, no gray.....

I really don't buy stuff for myself at all. People tell me I'm so easy to buy for because I appreciate all things I get as presents, I don't think I've ever returned or exchanged anything that people give me.

My husband loves to shop for me, and I like everything he picks out, so I wouldn't be surprised if DF were like that.

Yes, that helps. I also have a husband who is happy to shop. He works in a city with great stores, too. I don't, so serious buying falls to him. He has a good eye for nice things and can charm the la Prairie women out of bags full of free samples. I don't get so much as a smile when I try. Last week, he came home with a sample vial of every single Jo Malone fragrance in a nice Jo Malone gift bag. He didn't buy anything, just mooched around sniffing stuff until the nice lady gave him free stuff. I wouldn't have the brass neck to do that. I bet DF would, though.
