Before I buy...I need some advice

I have roughly a 5k budget and think I may have found my choice...

Here is the info I have.

The setting is a .40 platinum with 4 .10ct (2 on each side)

The diamond is an EGL USA graded:
E Color
VS2
.70 Carat
Table 57%
Pavilion 43.9
Girdle Thin to Med.
Total Depth 64.7
Polish and Symmetry both Very Good.

Please keep in mind I am not a Gemoligist, Jeweler but an average mid-20''s male wanting the best quality for my buck for the girl I love.

Your thoughts?

Things to consider, girlfriend has a very small hand 4 3/4 ring size. I think this would look spectacular on her.

Well, it''s a bit deep, which means it will look smaller than it''s size and it may not have the light return you''d want. The price is also not good enough to make up for the less than ideal cut. You can get an ideal cut stone for about the same price. Personally, I''d pass.

See your other post and see Hest''s suggested diamond!! It''s in your price range. It would be a SHAME to see you buy the other diamond over that beauty especially for the same price!!!

Read your other POST. It has a wealth of information in it and all of your questions are answered. Everyone who has replied has made an effort to educate or steer you in the right direction.

You don't have to buy a diamond from any of the vendors who participate in this forum. The one shown to you is an example of an EXCEPTIONAL diamond for the same price. This is first, and foremost, a consumer's forum, not a vendor's forum.

The point is that you can find a better diamond for the same money from ANYWHERE you'd like to buy. Buy local, buy online, but don't buy a dud because it's local or because you don't have all of the info. Find out the specs. Compare it to other diamonds. (That's what we were trying to illustrate -- a comparison to another diamond.)

Again, read the tutorials. Once you understand what we are trying to steer you towards (an excellent diamond, not a particular vendor) you will be embarrassed by your response.

Don't put EGO into the diamond you're considering. If someone tells you that a given diamond that you are considering is not a top performer, you should be thankful, not insulted. You said so yourself your "not a jeweler or gemologist". That's why you're here.

Take the help you are being offered.

I'm not a vendor; I'm a consumer just like you. I only bought the first diamond of my life a month ago. If it weren't for this place I would have surely bought a diamond only based on carat, color, and clarity; and it would have most-likely have been a dog. And I wouldn't have known until it was too late.

this stone is cut too deep at 64.7%,try to find one 60.8-61.3% depth.my wife has a pair of earrings (.72ct)that is cut 62.9% depth and i''am thinking about having them recut,because dose''nt sparkle like a ideal cut.
