Oooh Dingle and Glendalough, those would definitely rank on my list of the most beautiful places in Ireland! I did the 9k hike up around the Upper Lake a while back, have you ever done it? It goes over all these railway sleepers. Amazing views down over the lake!

You said you were reading a book about the tenements in Dublin, do you like social histories generally? I was just wondering if you''d read Saints, Scholars and Schizophrenics - it''s about attitudes to eccentricity in the remotest parts of the Dingle peninsula in the 1970s. Sounds very dry and esoteric but actually really interesting and some of it is still true today... You should get it in the college library for sure (that''s where I found it!).

Your Biology and Spanish teachers sound so inspiring, I love hearing stories like that

I love that hike up over the old sleepers-I haven''t done it this summer but myself, Amber and D did it the past three years before that. I haven''t read that book-will have to look it up. I adore true life crime books. If you get a chance to read that other one that I mentioned, you should-it''s an amazing book. I think that the sequel is coming out in a few weeks.

I might save it for after the thesis is done (that''s depressing enough already!), but I will for sure read it next year at some point. It sounds really interesting!

I''m hoping to get down to Wicklow again before the weather turns really nasty, to get that hike in again. It''s so beautiful.


OK another question, I think you mentioned in another thread that you and D have travelled all over? Tell us more about where you''ve been and the experiences you''ve had! What was the funniest thing that happened you on your travels? Who was the craziest character you met? The coldest / hottest weather? The maddest caper you got up to?

You should definitely read it-I got through it in 2 days as I just had to see what happened.

D and I used to travel during our summers and also every year we''d buy each other a flight somewhere for christmas.
We''ve travelled to UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Morocco, Toronto, Niagara Falls, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, California, Nevada, Mexico and our last trip then was Singapore and Perth. We''re hopefully going to Norway early next year too which is the next one that we''re planning.

Normally when we go on holidays, we love staying at a nice hotel and just walking around the city blending in with the locals. The craziest character we met was a woman that we had actually named Crazy. She was this mad old woman that was down by the harbour in Toronto and the first night we were eating at this cheap little restaurant and she was nearby and just kept shouting the f word. The next night she actually came over to talk to us and she was telling us her background and she was such a nice woman that just had some hard times, so she actually met us a couple of times and we bought her dinner.
The hottest weather was definitely Vegas. I can''t even describe how hot it was when we got there. I wouldn''t return in August to Vegas again-way too hot. I can''t remember the coldest weather-we''ve travelled to a lot of places in winter and a lot of them have been chilly. One of the maddest capers was entering a hoola hoop competition drunk in Orlando, and losing to an 8 year old

My favourite place to visit is definitely New York and I try and get there every year and next to that would be Barcelona. Some of my favourite experiences was definitely swimming with sharks in Perth and swimming with Dolphins in Portugal and Orlando. I have to head to the gym now but I''ll post more later!

When you swum with the dolphins in Orlando, was that at Discovery Cove? FI''s family has bought me a ticket to do that this Christmas - I can''t wait!

Yeah it was at Discovery Cove-it''s amazing!!! Our dolphin was called Roxanne-she was absolutely gorgeous. I''d do it again in a second. Are you going to Orlando for long?

It''ll be for about two weeks. FI''s family are going out there for Christmas and I''m going to follow them over. We''re staying with some of their friends about 90 minutes from Orlando. We were there before, in 2005, it was a great trip, we got to go out on a speedboat on the intra-coastal waterway - so much fun!

I am ridiculously excited about the prospect of swimming with a dolphin!

Oh and I forgot to mention about Manolo-he''s a very kissy kitten. He just rubs his nose into the side of your face the whole time to try and give kisses and occasionally you''ll get licks as well. He''s such a cutie when he''s in the right frame of mind

That will be so cool! I loved Orlando-D hated it with a passion though. Just wasn''t his type of place! The dolphin swim was absolutely amazing though-worth every penny and more.

Yep he''s still playing 24 hours a day! I took him into work today to get his second vaccine and now that he''s home, he''s going crazy!

Are you back to college soon bee? Are you excited? Have you many subjects / electives etc this year?

Yeah I''m back to college in just over two weeks-eek. Not looking forward to going back-it''s so nice working during the summer and not having to study in the evenings. I don''t have to do any electives at all this year as our main subjects fill up our timetable this year. Third year is our hardest year so it''s kind of daunting to think of it.

They are so wonderful together and I am so jealous that he is so kissy - mind you I have tamed a wild ginger cat who is kissy amazingly so I have managed some kisses with him - when he is at the same level as my head, he will stick his nose into my eye socket and snuggle!

My ginger was completely wild, it took us over a year to be able to even look in his direction as he would run and hide. Then we tamed him by making sure he could see us leaving food out for him, but we didn''t look at him or speak to him, and kept our body language submissive and non threatening. Then once he was comfortable and knew we would feed him, from there we would call him using cat noises and he would answer. Eventually we were able to chat with him, he would roll on the floor and head bonk anything convenient, then after a couple of months we could place a hand near him. That was the most challenging thing, he would let us put a hand near him but he wouldn''t let us touch him - that took 4 months of hand wiggling and cajoling! Then one day he let us rub his cheek and we were away!

Now he adores fuss

I am working on picking him up now, but he hisses as he doesn''t understand what I am trying to do! He is still intact but he stays close to home, he so wants company and love more than he wants food. It breaks my heart, he is so loving and would make such a wonderful pet cat, well he is our pet cat now!

My parent''s friends took her and she''s doing amazingly well now two years later. She''s one of the friendliest cats that I know, even though she was a bit crazy when I first took her home.

I''ll definitely get onto taking some more pictures of snuggly Manolo!

It is amazing how these little creatures learn to trust, it really warms my heart to be able to help these cats. My boy is in his warm bed in the hay barn at the moment, just finished his breakfast and we had kisses and head bonks!

That is so wonderful that that wild kitten found a loving home, good for you for stopping and helping her.

Was she going to be PTS as she was wild and not likely to find a home?

And I would love some more pics of Mr Manolo and the adorable Mups when you can! I love your babies!
