Hi Everyone,

I''m a long-time lurker and a first-time poster hoping for some advice

.

My mother recently gave me an absolutely beautiful OEC that has been in the family for years. My boyfriend and I are planning to have it set in an e-ring.

I had the stone appraised recently and it''s 1.32 carats, G color, with SI1 clarity due to the fact that the girdle is slightly chipped (I''m told that otherwise it would likely be a VS1).

I love the antique cut and have no interest in doing a total re-cut. But, I''d like to talk to someone about the possibility of polishing or otherwise repairing the chipped girdle. Because it''s a loose stone and uninsured, I''m wary about sending it to anyone who is not local.

I''m wondering if anyone could recommend someone I should speak to in the Los Angeles area about a possible repair? Thank you so much for your help!

Oh, what a lovely heirloom! Since you''re in L.A., I''d call Single Stone. They''re experts in vintage stones.

Ditto. Ari will take good care of you. I hope you come back and post lots of pics. How nice that you have a family heirloom. OEC''s are sooo lovely. Best of luck!!!

Ditto the ladies.

Thank you all so much for your help! I had already spoken with Ari about a month ago and was mulling over the decision, but your advice confirmed that Singlestone was the right choice.

I dropped off my stone with Ari yesterday, and he called today to let us know the chips had successfully been polished out with minimal weight loss to the stone (it went from 1.32 ct to 1.30 ct).

The harder part was choosing the setting-- they have so much beautiful work. I decided to go with the setting linked below, and it should be completed by the end of the year (when the boyfriend will pop the question with it, who knows

Love that setting! I''m so fond of that tapered effect.

You better post some pics when it''s done! I adore the setting you chose, those claw prongs are yummeh. Glad to hear Ari was able to get it polished up for you. How awesome to get an heirloom OEC

Ditto that, and may I ask how much it cost to get the chip polished out? I have an unset OEC that has a small chip that I''m contemplating having re polished. Thanks!
