BC Pills

Hi....i am looking to change the BC pill i am on (Yasmin) for another brand and wanted to get opinions from the rest out there who have experience in this....I have heard of Diane (but i also read that it was mostly used as an acne medication and also as a contraceptive... so that got me a bit worried that its first ''job'' was not as a contraceptive?? (or maybe i read the info wrong??))..

I basically want a brand that would be as mild as yasmin was to me (no bloating, clear skin, no weight gain, etc..)....any suggestions?

I am just chiming in to concur. I have an appointment with my dr. soon, and I want to insist on a change. I am on triquilar, and I think it makes me moody at times. I do not like it, and I want to try something else.

Have you tried Alesse? I made a temporary switch from Yasmin to Alesse some time ago, when my doctor ran out... and to me, there were less symptoms with it. It''s a low dose pill, just like Yasmin, and just as effective, as far as I know.

I also never got yeast infections with Alesse but got them when switching back over from Alesse to Yasmin.

I LOVE Loestrin 24. Its a relatively newer low dose bcp. I had taken several other bcp's in the past (Yasmin, Estrostep, and even the patch, Ortho-evra), but ended up having so many undesirable side effects that I couldnt tolerate, so I stopped them....Last yr I decided I would try something again, because I have been dealing with very painful, heavy periods for yrs, so I started Loestrin. I did have some breakthrough bleeding (very mild) for about 4-5 months after I started it, but that's the most I have dealt with side-effect wise....Loestrin is a VERY low dose bcp, so breakthrough bleeding is generally more common with these types of pills. It was completely worth it for me though, my periods are totally manageable now, and no breakthrough bleeding at all anymore. I am so happy I have found a pill that works for me (its completely trial and error, and different for everyone). I have also had really positive feedback from patients taking this pill, so I say, go for it!!!

ETA: I also agree with Sha re: Alesse. Its a nice monophasic low-dose bcp that's been around for awhile. An oldie, but a goodie.

i ended up taking Gynera instead of yasmin (they are also prescribed with the least side effects in the region)...a few ppl i know are on it and are quiet happy with it...

question: Is it okay to flip from one BC pill to another? I mean should i wait a while for it to take ''effect''??

I just wanted to second Dani''s glowing endorsement of Loestrin. I''ve taken it for a couple years now, with no noticeable side effects whatsoever. It''s lovely!

You should be fine switching from one pill to the other...Just start the new pack like you normally would.

I was on seasonale (I think they changed the same though) and LOVED it! I plan to go back on it once I am done BFing.

I second Tacori on the Seasonale! I''m actually on the generic, Jolessa, and before that was on the same pill but with the regular 1 month packaging: Nordette, Levora, Levlen, Portia (all the same, I just took whichever insurance covered). I''ve been on it for years with no problems, but everyone is different. You''ll just have to give something a try. Good luck ginfing one you like!

ETA: turns out Alesse is the same as all the above as well!

Just take it as if it is the same as your old pills. If you do not have 100% peace of mind about taking the new pills, then you might should wait about 7 days just to be 100% sure that. They should kick in right away if you continue on your regular schedule, but like I said, there''s nothing wrong with wanting that extra peace of mind, right? There should be a little blurb in your new pills regarding this issue. I JUST changed types myself, and my new pills say that it is fine to assume that the pills will be in your system as long as you are taking them on the same schedule as your old pills. BUT if you have started a new schedule, you should wait 7 says.
