I can''t remember the per-slice charges, but 3 bakeries I looked into were
Citizen Cake - SF
Copenhagen - Burlingame
Virginia Bakery - Berkeley
I ended up going with Virginia cuz they would deliver to Mill Valley (Copenhagen wouldn''t) and the price was right (Citizen Cake was too pricey for me) - I didn''t want to spend a ton and my cake ended up costing about $350. It''s a cute little mom n pop place, which I also liked. Yummy cake.
It''s been a few years, but as I recall most decent but reasonable places charged about $5 to $5.50 a slice. The high end places charged $10 or more, while the cheapie places were $3 or less. Hopefully that gives you a ballpark.
Hey - I want to say ours is about $5 a slice. We LOVE our cake baker - we weren''t totally sure what we wanted but she had an AMAZING perfect idea for us, and her cakes were by far the yummiest of all the places we tasted. We are using Julie Durkee of Torino Baking, which is located in Berkeley, but they will deliver to SF.
We didn''t go with the BayArea in the end, but I did start pricing out things here before we ended up settling on Hawaii...there was one in Los Gatos I think we checked into and then also the Cheesecake place in Campbell (Not Just Cheesecake''s or something like that?) and I think they both were between $5-10 per slice depending on the CAKE and what it was and how elaborate etc. I didn''t want to spend more than $500 on the cake so it seemed doable but it would probably have been a very simple cake, which would have been fine. My GF who got married a few years ago spend like $1k on her cake and I remember thinking wow that''s an expensive cake but I guess it''s not if you have a huge wedding!!
We used Bev Tanaka, and everyone loved her cake. I would totally recommend if you don''t have any intricate design in mind because her cake is really yummy, she is a super sweet lady, and you can''t bet her pricing. $1.75 per slice.
