Bathroom Reno - jewelry storage?

I hope this is the right place to ask this. I am starting to plan my master bedroom/bathroom reno and we plan to have a dressing area. I thought I would ask fellow PSers if you have any great jewelry and gemstone storage ideas? I am open to hearing any and all ideas, whether practical tips or purely fantasy/someday musings!

Husband wants to get a Pottery Barn style dressing island, but I’m more security minded. My idea is to have discreet between-the-studs storage that locks (sort of like a mirrored bathroom cabinet)... or some kind of other system behind a locked door.

Any great ideas? I know the best idea is to not store stuff in the house.

I would do an in ground safe, something easily accessible. Wall safes are easily cracked. And would suggest installing it in an inconspicuous place.

I have this unit in white attached to a wall in my walk-in closet, I love it! It is great for mid-range and lower range jewelry pieces. Anything higher gets stored in the safe, but I find that this is a great way to keep other things in reach and usable. It's not thief proof, but is certainly a deterrent to babysitters and such. It helps keep everything organized and in view to easily accessorize. My built-ins are also white and at first glance it just looks like a mirror hanging on the wall as is, but if you are doing some major renovations, I am sure that it could be more concealed or built in.

The unit does lock, but with enough time or the right tools, I am sure it could be easily opened. Not as secure as a safe, but it certainly has it's uses. If I had to dig through boxes in the safe, I would never wear it. Best of luck on the remodel.

I’m starting to come around to the best pieces need to be at the bank. I get that it’s inconvenient.

I like the idea of something locked for the good stuff, and costume stuff easily accessible for bait.

What I really wish I had was an appliance garage or something in the bathroom to hold my ultrasonic, jewel jet and various other jewelry cleaning supplies! They take up so much room.:eek2:

Thanks for all these ideas!

Queenie60- thanks, I hadn’t even considered a floor safe, but I’ll defintely look into one. I think it’d actually be more convenient as well as more secure, because I could sit and just reach in to get things out.

Octo2005 - yes, this is exactly the kind of thing I was considering before but as you said more built in and hidden. I do have everything in a safe downstairs currently and it’s just a major pain and I lose track of what is where.

Whitewave - I love having all my things right near me! I also don’t have any super expensive pieces and my most cherished pieces are always on or with me. This may sound paranoid, but I also quite like the idea of being able to collect all my pieces in a hurry in case we need to vacate or evacuate or whatever... without needing to collect things at the bank. I swear I’m not a prepper!

Lyra - yes, agree with that for sure! My husband keeps throwing my ring cleaning toothbrushes because he doesn’t recognize them. I was thinking of adding a dressing table to hold my facial regimen with drawers for hair dryer and ultrasonic. I could definitely put a jewelry box out with costume pieces on my nightstand, that’s a good idea too.
