When it comes to paint, if you''re going to purchase from Lowe''s or Home Depot, I would go with Lowe''s. Valspar is highly superior to the others. I would possibly consider the Martha Stewart paint at Home Depot, but it''s mixed in Olympic, so I dunno.

Regarding paint: We definitely plan to go with Olympic paint from Lowe''s, since that''s what we''ve used throughout the rest of our house and we''ve been very happy with it.

I did see some marble at both Lowe''s and HD, but honestly, I liked the look/color of the ceramic better. All of their marble was very grey/white, and the ceramic we found is more of an ivory. Also, after talking to DH, he still wants to do both the bathroom and kitchen in the same tile. So, if we do that, we''re looking at more like 250 square feet, which could get REALLY pricey if we go with marble!

Have you checked out the travertine at home depot? they run sales on that too, and it looks awesome. We did the kitchen in last house in travertine, and I had a hard time moving out of that house - it was so freaking gorgeous, and I think it helped sell the house in one day when we moved and put house on market. It comes in beige tones or pinkish- 18" tiles - I just a big fan of natural stone.

GG, I replied to you before the changeover to PS 2.0, but it looks like my reply didn't make it over. So, I wanted to thank you for the tip on the travertine at HD . . . I'll definitely look into that!

And we are now looking at lighting. DH has decided that we need both a ceiling fixture AND a wall fixture (near the mirror). And for the mirror area, we're trying to decide between the following:

BTW, we decided on a medicine cabinet with a frameless oval mirror for above the sink. I saw a few mirrors/medicine cabinets with beautiful frames and I was really tempted to go with one of them, but I didn't want that area to be too "busy" . . . I thought we should just let the faucet and lighting really stand out!

Definitely get the sconces for either side of the mirror!!!!! Lighting that floods downward has tendency to make you look older and cast horrific shadows. Sconces on the side of the mirror will cast a much more flattering light.
I suggest a framed mirror because I think it looks more expensive and finished.

Irish, Your husband is 100% right. You cannot have enough lighting.. both overhead, and sconces .... since he is an electrician....please consider seriously Wall Sconces, there are very skinny wall sconces that can fit any space.... plus you can get a narrow mirror... this makes such an unbelievable difference, and if hubby is an electrician , why not? sconces are a major cost in any bathroom reno, and such a high end look--- if you have the guy to do it- go for it.

We also went for mirrors without medicine cabinets to keep it clean and simple..

Hera & GG, thanks for the replies. After talking it over a bit more with DH, and doing a bunch of measuring, we have determined that there's really no way to do the two sconces on either side of the mirror. Which sucks, because I think that would have looked really nice. But DH was adamant that we just wouldn't have enough space without having it look crowded and, unfortunately, I agree. So we ordered the three-light bar which will go above the mirror. And we ordered a medicine cabinet with a frameless oval mirror. I really love the medicine cabinet we ordered . . . I think it's very simple, but elegant, and it will really let the light fixture and faucet stand out!

Meanwhile, we found out that our toilet is backordered! ACK!

I hope I'm not too late, but what about sconces installed over the mirror? Creates much more light and it gives a custom, upscale look. Also, I think you need over head lighting too.

WE HAVE FINALLY DECIDED ON TILE!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

We're going with Marazzi Tile's Montagna collection, which is porcelain tile that's made to look like travertine. (And it's surprisingly convincing, IMO!) We're probably doing the "Lugano" color, which is the lightest of the four colors offered in this line. We're doing 12" x 12" tiles all the way around the edges of the room, 6" x 6" accent tiles just to the inside of those, and then a gorgeous mosaic tile in the middle.
