So I recently discovered the joys of taking a bath.

I always thought I am not a bath person and haven't taken one since I was a baby. Well fast forward to last month and wow I cannot believe how wonderful they are. First I shower after a long bike ride and then I draw a bath. We have a gorgeous claw foot tub at the beach house so it is very inviting and I cannot believe I waited so long to try it. I play some soft music and add epsom salts, lavender and sea salt and warm water and soak for about 40 minutes at a time. It is luxurious, relaxing and oh so nice.

If I wasn't such a klutz I would add candles but lol I must stay away from fire.

Anyone else here take baths and care to share your bath routine?

HI:

Baths are my favorite thing! Used to have one every night--then I developed eczema. The hot water makes it worse--despite my moisturizing. We were recently on vacay--and I had one every night! Soothing after walking all day...but had an skin flare. Oh well.

cheers--Sharon

The only time I get to have a bath these days, is when we’re on holiday.

I put in Himalayan pink salt, and soak till the waiter gets cool.

The one thing I miss the most is my hot tub.:cry2: Hot baths really aren't the same to me (the tub here is quite utilitarian!) Still, I've used it for those days that only a hot bath will do.

  • Love love love baths! Especially in the winter to take off the chill. In France I have an old icky-pink tub that was obviously made for a giant and is fed by an equally giant hotwater heater, which only has one setting...boiling hot. I suspect the English owners before me knew what was *properly important* in life. Terribly unaesthetic fixture, but one of my most favorite places in the house.

The last time I had a bath, literally, was when I was 8 months pregnant with my now 9 year old, and I couldn't get out. My husband had to come in, hook me under my arms & heave me to my feet :lol-2:

We have the biggest bath in the world & it takes abut 25 minutes to fill. I haven't got time for it. I always bathed the girls when they were smaller, in more shallow water than I would need so quicker to fill, but I moved them to the shower from around 6 years old & they have showered ever since. They do ask me sometimes why they can't have a bath, and I have promised them that I will let them when winter is here. I *might* be a bit of a meanie!

My boyfriend has a lovely large claw foot tub, and we generally take a bath every night when at his house. However, he doesn’t like to fill his tub very deep and he’s not into long, luxuriant soaks.

At home I like to luxuriate in the tub once every few weeks. I add scented Epsom salt too, but most times I’ll also add a large tea infuser filled with dried oats (in the form of steel-cut oatmeal), lavender, and rosebuds. The oatmeal is for my skin, the rest is for the senses. Oh, and I fill the tub as much as I can!

Made me think of this:

I get chilled to the bone in winter, and get cranky without a daily hot soak. Like @VRBeauty I like the tub filled as much as possible! I have this clever and inexpensive gadget gifted from a fellow bath-lover that is great for that!

Ooh genius product, thank you. I love tubs filled as high as possible too. Love the total immersion in the warm water. However I do not care for bubble baths. Weird I know. But the warm water and the salts and lavender smell are lovely and calming and just right.

And what I was surprised about is how long the bath water stays warm enough. Once I stayed in for over an hour and it was still quite toasty warm and delicious.

We have a big, jetted tub that I just don't get around to using. I really like the inflatable bath pillow we have for comfortably leaning back, too. So relaxing. Hmm, maybe I should take a bath soon.

I used to have one of those! Then I realized that I could just turn the overflow cover thingy upside-down and it would accomplish the same thing. But I might have to get one of these for my BF’s tub. :Up_to_something2:

Nyet, unless the tub is like this in a room like this with a view like this and someone other than me cleans the tub before and after and brings me champagne and feeds me handmade chocolate while I soak. I ain't picky.

Oooh yes! This is what I need in our living room in the city. Perfect. Going on the wish list now.
Ahhh it's in Italy. Makes sense... they know what living is there.:kiss2:

I used to LOVE taking baths..I would hang artwork facing me on a wall opposite the tub and just stare into it. It would lower my blood pressure. I have a jetted tub now so they’re harder to clean as some of the water goes back into the jets..Yuck! It gets scrubbed often since my son uses it..but for that reason..not anymore. We will eventually move closer to my other son and daughter in law. The first thing I will do is renovate a bathroom for ME and that includes a jetless soaking tub..

I just remembered what happened to a friend a long time ago. She had put her son on the bus and ran a bath because it was a bad morning..She lit candles all over the bathroom..The bad thing was she had the window open and had curtains at the window..I bet you can guess what happened..she had her eyes closed but then smelled something burning..It was the curtains on fire which spread pretty quickly. Her whole bathroom was destroyed by the time the firetruck came. Fortunately the rest of the house was spared.

That is an excellent point about jetted tubs. I never thought of that. We have a Clawfoot tub that has no jets and I love it just the way it is. And now I know if we ever get a new tub or add a tub not to go with the jetted type. Thank you! Cannot wait to see what you design in your new dream bathroom designed just for YOU. You deserve it @Mamabean!:appl:

Thank you! My hubby isn’t ready to retire..We’re working on him but he’s not budging. I edited my post above because I forgot about what happened to my friend who lit candles in the bathroom. :eek2:

OMG that's so scary and exactly why I will not light candles. These days I would forget my head if it wasn't attached to my neck. Seriously.
Glad no one was hurt!

Hope your dh is ready to retire when it's best for all of you. My dh is the same. Of course we could use the income of him continuing to work right now (especially given my love of expensive bling and other things haha) but I am ready when he is ready. The summer was so great having him around more than not as he worked from home much of the summer. It was amazing having my partner in crime and cycling etc around most of the time. I miss him now that he is back in the office. When our dhs are ready we will know it and in the meantime I guess we can enjoy our time taking nice long baths and you can work on your dream bathroom plans. Very excited for you and please do share when you are ready to.:appl:

I used to love relaxing baths. It was so peaceful. Then we moved to this house that has an awkward corner tub with a straight back. I can't ever even get comfortable in it. I don't see any way of changing it either. There is no other choice for the floorplan of our ensuite. sad :((

Aww I’m sorry. I have a similar situation in our brooklyn home. We have 2 bathtubs but they’re against corners and I have a thing about being in the corner vulnerable and naked. Lol. So no baths for me in brooklyn. I miss them already.

I don't worry so much about being in the bath naked and vulnerable. I think I look like the old lady in the bathtub scene in "The Shining" these days. Would scare the living daylights out of an intruder I'm sure.:lol-2:

I haven't had a bath for years! I remember when I first met DF he used to run me a lovely bath, chill the sparkling wine and a glass (I don't like champagne) and let me have a soak, topping up my glass when necessary. I like to do candles - but I don't have a window or any fabric in the bathroom. (its an en-suite).

You’re too funny!

HI:

Dr. Hauschka, L'Occtaine, and Korres have gorgeous products for showering and bathing.

cheers--Sharon

Missy, I am glad you are enjoying a nice, relaxing bath. I totally enjoyed your C&H comic.

I am a shower person but I see the appeal of a luxurious bath.

Thanks Marcy...I am a shower person too believe me and it took over 5 decades to get me into a bath but let me tell you if you have a nice bathtub try it. You won't regret it. Not for every day perhaps but for times you just want to relax and luxuriate and just destress. It needs to be tried to be believed. Ask Greg how often he heard me say I am not a bath person.:lol:

At 03:00 am, second sleep-free night, I'll soak anything ...

On to it.
