I am a total newbie as far as colored gemstones are concerned, but i have been admiring everybody else's beautiful stones for a long time now and...i got jealous :halo: Some time ago i saw this gorgeous new pink tourmaline in Barry's site and i just couldn't resist :D
It isn't a big stone. It's an .82 ct, 6mm, but contrary to what you might see in my terrible pictures, it has the most amazing color ever and it sparkles soooo much! It's such a pitty that my pics don't do justice to this beautiful stone...
So, i'm planning to set my new tourmaline on an 18ct white gold halo setting with melee diamonds of G-H color and VVS clarity. I saw the specific setting on the internet and asked my jeweler to make something similar for me. I hope that i get to wear the new ring with my precious little tourmaline very soon :appl:

Here come my terrible pics (don't say that i didn't warned you about them... :naughty: )

Congrats on you new purchase! It is pretty and your pictures turn out nice. It is a good thing that you now have a piece from Barry, who is highly regarded for his beautiful cuts and super nice personality. The bad news is that now your expectation will be high!

One suggestion, if you want to show case the color of the stone, try using some background that doesn't compete with stone color. Use neutral background or contrast color will help it pop!

Does your tourmaline shift color from an orangy red to a pink red in different lighting?

Last pic for now! I think that this photo shows the stone's color better than the previous ones! Thanks for looking :wavey:

Hello Yingh :wavey: Thanks for the tips, i'll use them next time for better photos!

Indeed Barry is a very nice person and judging from my own stone, his cuts are so beautiful 8)

About the tourmaline color: No, actually it doesn't change colors in diferent lighting...I took it outside in the bright sun, in my home on natural daylight, in a dark room with the lights on...not any significant change of color. Definitely no orange or red color whatsoever...Which makes me wonder why does it look like that in the pictures  As you suggested, it must be the colored backround that interferes with the tourmaline's color

It's very pretty Naty!

Congrats on your first gemstone purchase. :appl: Barry cuts amazing rounds, and he's a sweetheart.

I’m seeing some shift in your pictures so it must be your camera. It looks like a sparkler though.

Very pretty! I'll look forward to seeing it when you get it set, natyLad. I'd also love to see some photos of it on a "quieter" background, when you get a chance.

VERY pretty! I like the orange flashes in it!

Packrat, Tourmaline_lover, chrono, Aoife, Rockhugger, thank you all so much for your kind comments!

Aoife, pictures in a "quieter" backround are definitely in order, but i've already given the tourmaline to the jeweller. When i get back the finished ring, i'll take more pictures and i hope that they come out better...
I really want you guys to see the true color of the stone...

Very pretty. I like the color.

I love   pink tourmalines...very pretty!!

Barry is very nice and his stones are even better!

You made a great choice for your first purchase.

It will look a lot bigger with a LOGR halo (upgraded diamonds).

Do that and then you'll be lost in the colored stone abyss with the rest of us . . .
