Heyyy y''all! (appropriate for the post topic.) I''m on the hunt for a rustic venue to hold my Fall 2010 Wedding. We''ve searched high and low for a barn to rent, but nothing seems to accommodate 150+ people. All locations are open to adding a tent, but...(here comes the Bridezilla!) I just feel that if I wanted my wedding in a tent, I''d pitch a tent! But I want my wedding in a barn...

So - if something comes to mind, your aunt owns a farm and the horses have all corked off, or you''ve got an alternate idea for me, I''d LOVE to hear it! Even if you have some inspirational or creative ideas - please share! Barns and farms seem to be the hot new trend in venues, so I''m hoping some other brides out there have ideas for me!

Cheers!

There are a few in the husdson valley. Search the old posts here on ps. There are also a few in CT if you are willing to go that far. I''d love to help you search but you have to give me to the beginning of October when my wedding is over.

As for the vineyards, there are plenty on Long Island and the Hudson valley. They ones that don''t require tents off the top of my head for 150 (that was our number) = Raphael and Wolffer, Bedel has a covered porch that is nice too.

Here are a few you should look at in NY:

http://bluehillfarm.com/

this place is kind of amazing but you have to see it http://www.shadowlawnny.com/

I myself am getting married here: http://onteora.com/

There are so many more, however right now I have to focus. I''ll get back to you in a few week.s

Oh, forgot to mention. Pick up a copy of Well Wed NY, Well Wed The hamptons and if you are willing to travel vermont vows. They are specialty magazines but awesome for this area. My event designers are featured in them all the time.

I had my wedding at Riverdale Manor in Lancaster, PA. It was a beautiful farmhouse/barn venue with a nice outdoor area. Their coordinators are great, food was delicious, and everything went off very well. The big negative is that they have no liquor license, so you have to supply your own alcohol.

Other similar venues in Central PA are Cameron Estate Inn in Mount Joy and Lauxmont Farms in Wrightsville. Lauxmont is considered more upscale and perhaps more desirable, but definitely more expensive. Hope that helps!

Not sure about PA or NJ, but I looked for barns in NY and really didn''t find much. This is one place that seemed nice but I didn''t visit: http://rombers.tripod.com/index.htm. Another option is Cat Rock, but I don''t remember if it''s really a true barn, and it''s pretty expensive, I think. http://www.osborncastle.com/. There are more in MA, if you''re willing to go that far. I totally understand having your heart set on a barn wedding, I did too, and wound up finding one in Vermont that I am so so happy with. So good luck!!!

If Ithaca, NY (Central NY Finger Lakes region) isn''t too far away for you, check out this space with is appropriately called "The Barn": http://www.thebarnparty.com/

Good luck finding the perfect event space!!

There are several farm/barn venues in the Philly area, which were on my initial list when FI and I were choosing a venue. One is called "The Barn" and is in Collegeville, I think it seats up to 200. Another one is "The Stone Barn" in Kennett Square, which is a restaurant with private reception space. "Audubon," which is in Audubon, PA, also has a barn but I'm not sure if that's where the reception would take place -- it could be worth checking into. Normandy Farm is also very popular for weddings -- I'm not sure whether it's a working farm anymore or if they are just concentrating on events, but I know a lot of people get married there.

There are also a few wineries in PA and South Jersey that allow weddings -- Laurita, Tomasello, Valenzano, and Rose Bank are the ones I know of and I'm sure there are more, but I haven't actually visited any of them so I don't know whether they're rustic or not.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all of the beautiful farm, barn and vineyard resources! Some of these I have seen and others are new -- we''ve finally got some solid leads! I appreciate the input!

Have been there for dinner/brunch a few times and it''s beautiful (BUT not cheap). Think Westchester-rustic-chic. Definitely not rustic. Food is great though and the property is beautiful (rolling green pastures, big trees). I go running right near there all year long but my favorite time to go is in the fall.

None of these places are cheap, I guess it just depends on what you want. THe food at Blue Hill is amazing.

NYC posted the link for Apple Barn Farm and I think you can just rent the barn?? I think. The rest of them are all pretty expensive.

The one thing that I did learn looking at places all over the HV is that you need to go there and see the places, don''t just rely on the internet pictures, I found them to be completely innaccurate. For example Shadow lawn''s website does not show the barn and I know that they do weddings in it.

Good luck.
