The high school I teach at participated in a mock election this week (real voting equipment, they had to register, etc.), and we got the results today. Obama won, 270 votes to 240. I was really shocked by this because I teach in a very small town in PA that is generally very conservative.

Of course, we didn''t bother to count how many votes were for Oprah, Superman, and The Hulk...in retrospect, I think The Hulk actually won the popular vote...

Oh and Hulk!

Well, if it was 270 Obama vs 240 McCain, then I don''t think those are such shocking results given that you live in a conservative area, and the age group, which is supposed to overwhelmingly support Obama. 270 vs 240 is a lot tighter in my area, where I think, among HSers, it would be at least 3:1 (and that is very conservative....I would guess it''s more like 4:1.) I am registered in a county where we have not voted for a single Democratic presidential candidate since FDR.

That is very cool that your school does that. Great idea to teach kids that voting is important early!
