Bannon Elevated in Fascist Move by Trump

Trump elevated Steve Bannon with the stroke of a pen in a typical fascistic move. With an executive order he removed the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence from from The National Security Council and added Steve Bannon. Don't believe it? Read it.

"The New York Times" writes of the order:

"It said that Mr. Bannon, the former head of Breitbart News, would be among the 'regular attendees' at 'principals committee' meetings — the interagency forum for cabinet-level officials to discuss national security policy. But the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff 'shall attend where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed.'”

Detained refugees who were interrogated, including those who were permanent residents, were asked for their opinions of Donald Trump. The day before he signed the order banning refugees he fired many career State Department workers who worked in the visa area (at least according to the mainstream television news, I have not yet checked this out). That is why no one stopped the ensuing mess. Speculation is that it was Bannon engineered.

Notice that the "dangerous countries" from which the US will not accept refugees does not include Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, the two countries who engineered the attacks of 9/11.

Saudi Arabia supplied ALL the pilots. Pakistan housed the Taliban, which trained them.

And you really didn't believe Trump would try to govern outside the law? Would trample on the US Constitution?

What I read was that these individuals were political appointments from the previous administration (e.g., "serve at the pleasure of the president"). I worked for a political appointee, so this is not surprising to me or unheard of in senior government positions. As most know, it is virtually impossible to actually (or quickly) "fire" a non-pol government employee.

"As is standard with every transition, the outgoing administration, in coordination with the incoming one, requested all politically appointed officers submit letters of resignation," he said in the statement.

"The Department encourages and advocates for senior officers to compete for high level offices in the Department. These positions are political appointments, and require the President to nominate and the Senate to confirm them in these roles. They are not career appointments but of limited term."

Hi, Jenn-

Glad to see you. (Believe it or not.) Since I last wrote I have been reading about the departures from The State Department, too.

I liked this article from "The Atlantic".

While I undstand about state department changes in different administrations, my understanding of NSC is that it is supposed to be made up of senior (uniformed) military officers. So what is up with assigning a civilian to it? Frightening....and you (collectively, the populace) are meant to be focusing on the more dramatic social issues enacted at the same tine, which everyone, predictably, is...

This is the scariest development so far. I saw a few articles debating whether senate confirmation may be necessary for the NSC role based on an obscure law. Let's hope so!

Hope y'all Trump voters (all of which are too cowardly to come out of the closet here) are proud of yourselves.

From what I've seen, I think many people are going to invoke that law in order for this move to require a vote. I think many people on both sides of the aisle are terrified of Bannon's insane agenda.

Stephanie Murphy files bill that would remove Stephen Bannon from National Security Council
Posted By Colin Wolf on Wed, Feb 1, 2017 at 4:04 pm

Florida congresswoman and Winter Park resident Stephanie Murphy filed a bill Wednesday that would essentially remove Trump's top political advisor Stephen Bannon from the National Security Council.

If passed, Murphy's bill would make it so no person whose “primary or predominant responsibility is political in nature” could be designated as a member of the Security Council or be allowed to regularly attend its meetings.

The bill would also "express the view of Congress that the Director of National Intelligence or the Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff should have a standing invitation to attend Principal Committee meetings."

In a statement issued Wednesday morning, Murphy stated that the bill was a response to Trump's unprecedented move of giving Bannon a seat at the National Security Council and de-emphasizing the roles of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence.

Today I introduced a bill that will instruct @POTUS to keep partisan politics out of Natl Sec & off the NSC. More: https://goo.gl/1wQH3o

“Our men and women in uniform, our intelligence and homeland security professionals, and our citizens should feel secure in their knowledge that the critical decisions made by the NSC are free from political considerations. The American people deserve a national security policymaking process that inspires confidence, not cynicism,” said Murphy in a House floor speech.

Murphy is a representative of Florida's District 7, which covers all of Seminole County and much of northern Orange County, including downtown Orlando, Maitland, Winter Park, and the University of Central Florida.

it is my sincere hope that common sense and a more moderate approach will win the day here and a ruling made so that a position can't be used or abused by either side.
