Hey all,

So, I'm looking for a bangle and thought I'd ask the experts here. I found one that's beautiful locally, however it's more than I want to pay. This is what it looks like: http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Wa...efccid=735CARGAVJNZLXSNPLHZL53DKM&searchidx=0

I liked the look and feel of it, however I"ve found a few online, anyone have any ideas for me? I'm looking for a hinged oval bangle that will fit my 7" wrist (so about 7.5" bracelet), in the $200 range. I would like yellow or maybe rose gold. I like the look of 14k and 18k.

Here's one I found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231399638726?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I'm worried about online because I do not want a hollow bracelet. The one I saw locally was about 11g. The one I posted is lighter....anyone know of a good seller and/or where I can find one?

I really doubt you'll find a hinged solid bangle for $200. 11g of 14k is $242 scrap value, so you'd be trying to find a bangle selling for less than scrap prices. Even if it was just half the gold weight, I still think ebay is your best bet. Just check the return policy.

The scrap value of 14k is going to be $21 to $22 per gram, so you have to be very lucky and/or very wary if you find a 14k bracelet in the $200 range weighing 10 grams or more.

Here's an ebay search string using a $50 to $250 price range. It's not perfect, there are some non-bangle or cuff bracelets that slipped in. Be on the lookout too for baby bracelets, since I assume you're looking for a bracelet for yourself. :wink2:

Even the Gurhan bangle I first bought (before I had my own made), that was solid, was not solid gold. I don't know that it would have occurred to me to worry about the quality of a Gurhan piece.... Assume nothing.

Hmmm....sounds like the one locally may be a good deal. Sigh. If only I won the PS giveaway!   HEHE Thank you for the ebay link, I'll scour there as well....

Ok guys, there is a local jeweler and I've been quoted the $900-$1,000 for a solid bangle that they make in house....it looked to be about a 3mm width and I'm guessing 14k.....so my PS mavens, is this a good price or no? Yes, I know I can go the eBay route, however I'm VERY concerned about buying a hollow bangle that fits. Going here would be custom just for me so it would for sure fit, support local, and be solid.....so....do I save to have enough for this or?

What, no pics?!!

I do think that price is reasonable for a solid gold bangle - were they able to provide you with an estimated metal gram weight? That would be useful info in terms of gauging cost. What is the hinge style?

Ditto, I think that sounds reasonable for a solid 3mm-wire 14k hinged bangle!

Well...I didn't even think of pictures! I know shameful ps'er!!! The other reason was the bangles I tried on were all with stones and were way more than the price I was quoted. :D

As for the hinge style, I'm not sure what you mean, however it has a hinge and a tongue that sticks into the other side (not a slider thing) and a safety latch. Hopefully that makes sense on the hinge question. :loopy:

Sigh, if only saving money was as easy as spending it!

Yup, that's the bangle hinge that I prefer - the long tongue and safety latch. I've been searching around myself for a solid hinged bangle myself, one perhaps augmented with some little diamonds I already own - but that project has been put off til after the holidays, so I really hope yours is done and we get to see wrist shots before I start looking again!

It's going to be a while for me, possibly closer to summer :( It takes FOREVER to save for these projects. My bling fund comes from me working an extra hour or so each day, but at $10/hr it takes a while to get a stash. However, I keep thinking that eventually my little drops will fill the bucket, so I keep saving. It doesn't help to come to PS where all the sparklies are soooo pretty!

I read a quote on purseblog yesterday and it went something like this: Spend big on what you love, cry once. Spend less and settle, cry forever. This is reminding me NOT to scour eBay looking at things that I have maybe a 50/50 chance (if I"m lucky) to get what I want.
