I am only 28 and I have awful under eye problems. I have the darkness directly under on the side near my nose and then I have heavy looking bags/swelling/puffiness that comes to about halfway down my nose. The darkness I can mask with concealer, but the bags are always there. They are mostly noticeable with overhead lighting. Which is what I have at work so I need to get rid of them.

I did some research and apparently the Canadian version of Preparation H works. I know that there are creams especially made for it, but I am not willing to spend $40 on a cream that might not work. Prep H only costs about $10.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I need something that is tested and true. I am starting a new job on Monday and do not want to look haggard!

I have the same problem! I don''t have any experience with products that DO work, but I can tell you the Mary Kay under eye product and the Garnier one (both are tube-like with a roller ball at the end) do NOT work...let me know if you find anything that does or if you try the preparation h.

I have the same problem! I hate hate hate it! Urg... I can cover w/ makeup, but the bag never goes away.... and I can''t find ANYTHING that takes care of that. I''ve tried the garnier roller too, nada!

count me in if anyone knows of product that works-- I think in some cases it''s hereditary and only surgery can take care of it. Prep H is probably more for if you''re tired from one night''s bad sleep and I''d think you''d want to apply carefully!

But fill me if anyone knows of anything. I did see a infomercial where they were pushing a product which worked wonders (and did on the people in the ad...I think it was Youthology or something?) but am obviously very skeptical as with all anti-aging or eye creams.

Just to butt in, are you sleeping enough? Drinking plenty of water? It is genetic but being tired or dehydrated often make it look worse and aparently sleeping on your frount can encorage the puffyness.

I''ve tried the Mary Kay one too and didn''t notice a difference. I don''t have a whole lot of puffiness but my bags are pretty dark. I use concealer every day but would love a different solution as well.

I''m a lot older and with age, the dreaded circles and puffiness have creeped up on me.
I''ve tried so many different products. Nothing works, short of cosmetic surgery.

I have found 1 product that is a temporary help. Easy Eye Solution
it does take some trial and error to determine which application method works for you.
basically what it does, is tighten things up and smooth the area out.
it is expensive (under 100.00 though) but 1 bottle will last way over a year.
I use a teeny tiny drop divided between both eyes - applied with a small makeup brush after all makeup is on.
you can Google the name for more info :-) I found this product on another forum and it was well liked there,
so I decided to try it !

Do you have sinus allergies?

I had horrible dark bags under my eyes in college, and only during the four years that I was in college. My doctor told me that they were "allergic shiners" and they were related to the sinus allergies that flared up whenever I was in my college town, which was surrounded by a lot of farms.

Sure enough, whenever I went back home to Chicago the bags disappeared, and they haven''t come back since I graduated eight years ago.

I know that''s not much help for covering them up, BUT, if you do have allergic shiners then maybe some sort of allergy treatment would make them go down.

Yep, allergies can cause problems. . .from what I''ve read the dark circles can be a result of a food allergy of sorts.

To help reduce puffiness, you can avoid foods with salt. I''ve never tried the prep. H trick but have read that it works. A few years back I remember reading about some actress (was it Christina Ricci?) who said she swore by the stuff as one of her beauty secrets.

My allergist told me the same thing "allergic shiners". He prescribed an antihistamine and a nasal spray which worked wonders.

I have these too but I think they are just genetic in my case. The positive this is they seem to be getting smaller down the generations. My mum''s are more prominent than mine and her father''s were really amazing.

I''ve tried lots of products but nothing makes much difference. These days I try to stay well hydrated and rested, avoid exposing the area to sun and avoid crying.

I usually get them from lack of sleep (which is often) Preparation H does help with puffiness but dosen''t get rid of the black circles

Prep H also helps to rid the midsection of water bloat.

I just hate the smell of the stuff. It smells like...well...you know....

Here's a topic I know a bit about! Although I don't have the bags, I do have the dark circles and as age catches up on me significant furrows were developing under my eyes. This in turn meant that concealer was starting to "puddle" in the furrows.

As far as Preparation H goes, it used to be widely used amongst models who partied a little too hard the night before a shoot. As to how effective it is, I don't know because I have never tried it. I suspect any improvement would be very short lived.

I would think it would also depend on what the composition of your eye bag is. If it's a fat sac, then it makes sense that Preparation X would be less effective. It might be worth a go, to give you a short term boost to start your new job.

I think in the long run it would do you good to see a competent dermatologist who has a laser clinic. Don't go to a regular B&M laser clinic - you need the opinion of a doctor.

I have recently undergone dot C02 fractional laser treatment around my eyes. I did it to try and erase the furrows and to shrink my ever encroaching eyelids. It cost me C$600. The doctor said that it may help with dark circles, although not to bet on it because the dark circles are caused by a combination of thin skin and a large vein that is runing under the skin. It didn't help in that respect.

Now obviously I'm not expecting you to run out and get laser treatment tomorrow, but I suspect your bag problem is not going to go away and over time will get increasingly worse. Blepheroplasty (surgery) is a more radical step.

Like I said, I didn't have bags to begin with, but if the laser shrinks bags the way it shrank my heavy eyelids, you would not be disappointed with the result. I am back to using YSL Touche Eclat to cover the darkness, along with a good dusting of MAC's "Brulee" eyeshadow. No more "puddling" though.

But I caution you to research thoroughly and only consult with a qualified dermatologist with plenty of experience under his belt.

Good luck with the new job.

The best results that i have seen for bags under the eyes have been from Bletheroplasty, where they make small incisions on the inside of the lower eyelid and either suck out the fat, tighten the muscles or a combination of both.

I know that it may seem pretty radical since you are only 28, but if it is inhertited age doesn''t matter. I was 29 when i had upper bletheroplasty and i have been extremely happy with my results.

If you google bletheroplasty in images you can look at heaps of before and after shots. Of course your own results would be unique to you.

Good luck with finding a less radical solution though! Make sure that you drink lots of water and get lots of sleep.

Prep H didn''t do a thing for me.

Benefit''s "eye-con" helped reduce bags for me, although it doesn''t eliminate them. About $40 for a jar that lasts 4-6 months. I use it religiously.

The best remedy for me is still getting enough sleep -- which pretty much means that I look tired about 99% of the time!
