Ok guys I recently upgraded my diamond. From a .67 e color si1 clarity to a 1.50 vs2 J color near ideal?. Well here is the problem I went for lower color to get a better cut diamond, I was out with some pals and one chimed in that it could not be that good of a cut ( she said it was too dark looking). I don''''t know how to read the specs so can someone help me? Is this a good cut or was this girl being snide?

Depth: 60.7 Table: 55 Crown Angle: 34.7 Crown %: 15.5 Pavilion Angle: 40.7 Pavilion %: 42.9 Girdle: very thin to thin faceted Polish: Excellent Symmetry: Excellent Culet: None

It looks like it''s an excellent stone to me! Have you looked at the tutorial and HCA? Try this link.

I wouls post this is rocky talky.. I am sure that you will get a lot of good advice there/

your stone has excellent specs from what you posted...that would be what i would call ideal. great angles too.

ideal stones don't look their best in all lighting situations...aka direct sunlight or possibly if there is not enough light to really show it off in it's best, aka too bright or too dark situations may not have the best performance.

here's a question, you say you went for lower color to get a better cut...so sounds like you did some research to get that better cut? so why are you letting this woman who sounds like she doesn't know a thing trouble your mind? have the confidence in your own skills to tell her you know what you are talking about and that's it!

my two cents!! don't give it another thought.

Angel it sounds to me like the green eyed monster has surfaced, don''t worry, your diamond is YUMMY!

Hi Angel,

The spec sounds fine, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with colour-J.

I think Lorelei has hit the nail on the head, this is definitely a green eyed monster your describing.

Enjoy your ring!

Hi! I also think the green-eyed monster was at work there. Next time your "pal" makes a remark like that, ask her when she got her gemology degree.

Taken from MB's little book of replies which I love!! Good retort MB as usual

It can only be jealousy, I cannot understand why a "friend" would make a remark like that, so flipping rude and uneccessary

Angel, your stone sounds beautiful and ideal to me. Don''t worry about something someone who doesn''t know what she''s talking about said.

The only reason I was wondering was that I bought it from a family friend (gasp that owns a pawn shop). He has had the diamond in the back for awhile due to it nice cut and so forth, well I traded in my old .67 diamond to him and had to pay only $5,000.00 he gave me a BIG DISCOUNT DUE TO THE FACT HE IS A FAMILY FRIEND he has never tried to pull the wool over my eyes about anything before. When I had it set I had it appraised and everything he said about it was true to the T. I hope it does not seem cheap the way I bought it but It would have been a few years before I could afford the same type of diamond from a vendor.

The only thing is that I think I have found a setting I simply adore. However it is a Cartier design and I don''t want to pay just for a name, would Whiteflash do a similar design. Or does anyone know a retailer who sell a similar design? I would want it in white gold (sorry to those who love plat I own a vintage plat ring and do not like the patina it gets after awhile).

Cartier doesn''t just sell their settings...so you''d have to have the ring replicated by someone else...

I love that solitaire setting, but don''t know if I have ever seen it 100% replicated on here...I think people have done similar settings but not exact.

As for how you got the diamond seeming cheap, no way!! A great deal is even better when it''s an ideal stone and it sounds like yours was a spectacular deal. Something doesn''t have to cost $10k for it to be valued and personally I find bargain shopping for primo stuff the smartest way to go anyway!!

Please post pictures of your stone if you have not already..! And can''t wait to see the final setting.

Mara I have it set in an white gold x prong. I like the style however love the Cartier setting better ( my hubby could kill me). Here is the pic I will post some better pics tomorrow when I get home from my dads.

LOL you sound just like me about changing the setting!! (except I''m not even married yet...my fiance is way too nice and generous) That said, I think your stone is beautiful!

Well I love my current setting!! Its just that Cartier setting is strong yet feminine.

Actually I nearly bought this setting but thought that the x prong was more me( if that makes any since)

girl, the cartier and x-prong are way different than that one

I''m sure any vendor could make something very similar to the cartier if that''s what you wanted. Why not go and try on a bunch of style before deciding to change. I have been all over the place in trying to decide a setting and after going on trying all the pave settings I realized I like the classic solitaire best on my hand. You may find you like the more antique setting but if you hubby''s anything like mine, you''ll want to be very sure if you decide to change settings.

I love all those pave delicate halos ( ahh shucks I''m drooling all over my self) but they are simply not me. That''s why I love this site I can look at every one else beauties. I think my hubby might kill me just for changing my mind on the setting though. With my .67 solitaire I changed the setting three times from an antique setting to a Stuller setting to a plain tiffany setting.
