Forgive me father for I have sinned, it''s been a gazillion years since my last official confession (I''m a recovering Catholic).

My daughter sent me this picture today to show me the allergic reaction she suffered immediately after eating a sample of teriyaki chicken in the mall, and once I knew that she was breathing okay and had some Benadryl dissolvables in her purse and ate one.....all I could think was....Dayum, we finally have a good shot of your push present!!
3.gif

But seriously, look at those hives....crazy. She''s doing fine now...all you can see is the ear bling.
36.gif

I suggested that she get the ingredients from the food vendor at the mall so she can try to identify what caused it. It''s been happening with increasing frequency. She was worried about it because she is breastfeeding. I had no idea whether she should pump and dump a feeding or two.

Nah, it shouldn''t have an effect on her nursing, but I hope the poor dear figures out what''s causing those hives! I got those too, turned out I was allergic to berries

and as a smoothie addict, it''s been hard to accept

Beautiful girl & beautiful bling! YIKES about the hives. Its been happening to me this holiday season too & I suspect the culprit in my case is Bailey''s Irish Cream. Can''t tell for sure but its my best guess & I''m afraid to try it again for fear of a dramatic throat swelling kind of reaction. Gah. What WILL we do with that giant bottle of it? (DH doesn''t drink).

Wellllllll....I have a few thoughts. Most of them start with a box, some stamps, and a quick trip to NC for that big bottle of yours.

Oh yeek! Glad to hear she is doing better. I went through a bout of hives with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and it was kind of scary. They just kept popping up for nearly a week!

Whoa, if that''s from a "sample" it''s a good thing she didn''t eat a normal portion of the bird
32.gif

Most teriyaki sauce has Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Sugar, Wine, Vinegar, Modified Food Starch, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Spice Extractives, Garlic Extract, Dextrose, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate. They might have put some MSG in there also?

I know!! That''s what I said when I saw the picture. One bite. We think it was MSG or maybe it had some oyster sauce or something. Crazy.

Pinkasscher-That bites! I would be one unhappy camper if I couldn''t eat berries.

Deco-Bummer about the Baileys. I love that stuff. I used to drink it in my coffee. You had better get that bottle to princess asap. Safety first!

TGal-Did you get the hives or Amelia? I would freak out if my child broke out like that. Oh wait...she is my child.

Pretty mom= Pretty daugther. She takes after you and she''s very pretty! Love the ear bling, but not the hives. I hope she''s ok! Is she allergic to a lot of stuff or enough stuff that she has benadryl in her purse? I should probably start thinking of doing that too since I''ve noticed that since I''ve been getting older, I seem to be allergic to more stuff. Maybe she could go to a doctor to find out exactly what she is allergic to? I''m thinking of getting that allergic test done just for my sanity. Hope she''s ok!

Poor thing! Pretty earrings. Hope she figures out what she is allergic too soon!

I have 2 thoughts.

1. She could have a shellfish allergy, and if they just cooked shrimp before her chicken, it could cause an allergic reaction.

2. What kind of oil do they use. Maybe its a peanut or sesame allergy.

ETA the earrings are gorgeous!

Goodness, miracles, I''m glad she''s feeling better!

Her earrings are gorgeous

deco - an allergy to Baileys would be heartbreaking

Miracles! I hope your DD feels better! OMG, how worried you must have been!

OK, on the other front... she has grown even more beautiful since her wedding day! Wow, I hope I look that pretty with no makeup after I have a baby. I guess good genes run in your family - I mean, look at you, mama! Hahaha! I love how close you two are. I send my mom photos of whatever I'm going through, too!

The earrings are MAZAL! Wow! They sure do pop! They look so pretty and BIG! Are they martini or basket settings? They are the perfect size for her ears. I feel like any bigger and they wouldn't be as pretty. Hmmm, I wonder why that's why I loved my other pair so much? Oh boy...I've been busy with Yekutiel! That cross was from him and I'm working on some bezeled diamond dangle leverbacks. GAH! Does it ever end? (((hugs)))

Hope your DD feels better soon! I don't understand allergies but sometimes spontaneous allergies can happen later in life. I gave a colleague a banana once and he broke out in HUGE hives. We thought it was the banana. I felt so guilty!!! But after he got back from the doctor, he told me that he is now allergic to bananas. So strange because he has eaten then all of his life! Every time I see him, he tells me he is STILL allergic to bananas! And that was last year.

Your DD is too pretty for those hives! Hope they are all gone by now!

luvcarats: She has developed a shellfish/shrimp allergy. So have I. It''s odd, because we both used to eat shrimp cocktail all the time. Now, we are lucky to share one bit of coconut fried shrimp.
7.gif
I never thought about the cooking of shellfish and then the chicken. It makes sense. She had a less severe reaction after eating a deli turkey sandwich. So we''re pretty
33.gif
about the nature and extent of this allergy. The only time she ever had a bad reaction when she was a kid was when I feed her some diluted guava necter. She didn''t get hives but she was still in diapers and she had a large reaction when the urine landed in her diaper. A little TMI, but her girl parts blew up to three times their size and I had to rush her to the ER. Other than that one time, she never had any allergies as a kid. (I''m sure she just loves me sharing these stories.
9.gif

Luckyeshe and Tacori: I think that this episode concerned her enough to make an appt to get some basic allergy testing. It''s just so hit and miss with that testing. I have seen people test and test and test with no definitive results who continue to have reactions with no discernable pattern.

yssie: I love her studs too!! I wish mine looked that nice on my ears. I am already seriously considering my upgrade policy.
9.gif

Which leads me to my biggest enabler....

Bliss: Aren''t they perfect on her ears??? I love them. They are one of the stones that you got to see before Yekutiel sent them to me. I think you''re right...any bigger and it would have been too much. It was perfect to get just under the .75 so that I saved some money. They need a cleaning because she hasn''t taken them off since she put them on. She even showers with them on. I don''t. I take mine off before I shower. I am still trying to figure out the best way to clean mine.

Hers are martini set. You''re right about the LaPousette backs. Both of us have to slide the back toward the security grooves to sleep so they don''t poke us, but I notice that she forgets to push them back behind her ears securely so they have a tendency to droop until I remind her to push the back in. Baby Veda has found her hands and on Christmas it was the first time she starting to grab her Mama''s face. I told her to make sure she secures those bad boys on her ears or it''s gonna hurt when Veda gets a good hold on them. Ouch.

Soooowa, you''re working on a new pair!!! I''m so envious. You have such amazing pieces. That cross is divine. It is the perfect size for you and it is a dazzler. I can''t wait to see the bezeled dangled leverbacks. Yekutiel just loves working with you. I wish I was able to see his store in person. I would go b.a.n.a.n.a.s.

She does look pretty good without make-up. I don''t. Her eyes look brown in this picture, so I think it was the angle, because they are green like mine. She hates the bump in her nose that was broken while spotting a gymnastic stunt with one of her cheerleaders when she was coaching. I love it....it gives her character.
9.gif

I cannot wait to see your new projects. I am already searching for my upgrades. It doesn''t ever end, does it? Diamonds are addicting. I really want an Octavia though, so I am torn.
38.gif

I hope we get to the bottom of the allergy thing though. As a Mom, she is now more diligent in reducing risks to her health. She''s finally learning to appreciate my overprotectiveness.

Miracles!

Yours are perfect for YOUR ears! I think your lobes are actually smaller than your DD's? Am I imagining that because your avatar is so tiny? In fact, after seeing your DD's nice big studs that are PERFECT for her ears, I'm wondering what my "perfect" size is. I think we have warped perspectives on PS and sometimes the perfect size is smaller than what our mind wants, if that makes sense! I always thought bigger is better but actually, the right size is PRETTIER! I'm probably not making any sense, but that size is truly perfect! Big but lovely! Not too big! Maybe it's bc she's so pretty! But what a lovely lovely scale for everything! And I love her nose! She is gorgeous! I don't think she'd be that stunning or as unique without that nose! It is so pretty. Just is! I don't need to convince you, though! Hahahaha.
36.gif

I'm so happy I got to see those stones in person. Hubba hubba. Those stones are indeed magical. That photo does NOT do them justice!!!! In person, you can just see gleaming arrows galore and crazy sparkle. You gave her some insane diamonds!!! Lucky lady!

She must clean them! Miracles! You must clean them for her! LOL I know she's a new mommy and doesn't have time.
31.gif
But you gotta sneak 'em out and clean them! I am sure Baby Veda will appreciate looking up at sparkles! I am loving that martini setting again. How do you like hers compared to your basket settings? I clean mine every day by dunking them in cleaning solution and letting them soak overnight. Mine get so gunked up by the end of the day. Every time DH hugs me, I can just feel his face oils getting all over the studs. Yes, amid the glow of love and blissful romance - in the back of my mind, I am thinking about facial oil! Ha! Crazy, eh? Yep. I'm certifiably nuts and DH knows it! He even does it more on purpose! I love that man.

Thanks for the compliments on the cross! I love it and am wanting a longer chain. Yekutiel rocks! He is so much fun to work with and never says no to any weird idea or project I have for him. The Best!

I am laughing at the fact that your little cub is now an overprotective mama tiger now!!!!

if there was red coloring in the sauce it could also be that. It''s derived from shellfish shells so people who are sensitive to shellfish (shrimp and lobster mostly) will react to it. That''s actually what I look like after I take old fashioned pink benadryl. I can only take the clear benadryl or tylenol simply sleep. And I break out in hives on my mouth when I eat anything that uses shrimp/lobster shells in the cooking process (like for bisque). Fun times, but fantastic bling!

I am allergic to almost all store bought kind of sauces too...I had hives for nearly 6 months last year before I figured out it was food coloring, especially yellow. Food coloring is in almost every prepackaged food we eat. I would have her do a bland diet and keep a food journal, adding foods in to see what does/does not cause a reaction and just keep the benadryl handy. Beautiful earrings though!

Oh my! Glad to hear that she is ok, but wow that is scary! Does she have food allergies? What is she allergic to?

Beautiful bling, BTW.

Oh poor baby! That looks just miserable but those earrings look mighty pretty!!! My hubby went through a time where he got hives pretty frequently. His physician couldn''t figure it out and he went to an allergist that couldn''t find a cause either. It wasn''t until one of his business trips where he had a headache and tool some Advil and immediately broke out in hives that he figured it out. Anything aspirin or aspirin based causes him to react that way. Now he just stays away from that and he hasn''t has hives since. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out what causes them.

Awww...your poor DD - I had some horrible hives earlier this year, they are so uncomfortable! I''m glad she''s recovering - hopefully you can get to the root of it all so this doesn''t keep happening.

The earrings are lovely though!!

miracles, your daughter is gorgeous!

I''m sorry to hear about the hives, however. I haven''t personally experienced any, but I can imagine they''re quite bothersome.

Oh yes, and beautiful bling! I agree that they are the perfect size for her ears
9.gif

Yowzers! Beautiful earrings though!

My stepdad is deathly allergic to MSG. Years ago, we were traveling to see family once and stopped to eat dinner along the way. He ate something from a japanese place and went into anaphylactic shock. We went into a drug store to get Benadryl and the pharmacist took one look at him and starting ripping the package open. It finally got out of his system, but we were inches away from an emergency room visit in another state. After that, Mom banned him from eating anywhere that had the potential for MSG to be in the food. Too dangerous.

The poor thing. I get hives from food and they itch a lot! Her earrings are gorgeous.

I understand. My life was not good - and I was virtually functionally unemployable when I did not understand what I was reacting too.

In my case I have a list of foods that I react to the proverbial mile long. There are very few commercially prepared foods I can eat, and I really have to be very careful when eating out (which I rarely do now because of the issues).

There are two general forms of allergy testing. Skin test, and blood test.

In my case - I got the most information from the blood test from immuno labs: www.immunolabs.com

For this testing - I paid up front and submitted it to my insurance company for partial reimbursement. But, I am convinced it was literally a life saver - so well worth it.

I note that neither test was 100% - but they allowed me to eliminate the vast majority of the problem foods - and then the few remaining problem foods were identifiable based on my specific reactions and comparing that with what I had recently eaten.

I wish your daughter well in figuring out what foods are the problem.

Have a great day,

Perry

I get that same reaction everytime I eat something that has MSG in it. I now carry a epi-penn in my purse because the next reaction could be life threatening, or not, but
you never know. The hard part is, MSG is in so much that you just wouldn''t think had it. Tell you DD to be so very careful!

I''m so sorry she had that reaction. Hives are so uncomfortable and scary! Hope allergy tests offer some conclusive results!

The earrings are awesome!!!! They are the perfect size for her ears and look gorgeous!
