My bfriend and I just visited the jeweler the other day and it's been brought to our attention that the heirloom diamond I planned to use is still in it's original setting from my great, great grandmother's engagement ring. Long story short, because it's an old miner's cut and not perfectly round I can't have a bezel setting made to fit it, or if I tried it could be quite difficult.
Also, they spotted an inclusion in the diamond that one of the prongs from the original setting is covering. I knew of this inclusion but didn't realize that the original setting was covering it, since my old jeweler was the person who put it in the necklace I thought he actually used a new setting but he just found a necklace setting that could work with the original setting that the stone was in.
Anyway, since they're not sure how deep this inclusion is, they told me that there's a big possiblity that the stone will break upon further investigation and that in order to see the diamond anyway, they'd have to cut it out of it's current necklace. Leaving me with a potentially broken diamond or a diamond that was useless because it's cut out of its necklace setting. Needless to say, I'm not willing to take a chance on something so sentimental so I'm back to the drawing boards!
I'm looking for an endless love ering style or something similar (but can't afford Ritani). I really love the bezel set/halo around the center diamond and the pave diamonds around the band. Since my bfriend and I are young (just out of college and just bought a house) we have a budget of $3000. We're looking at white gold since platinum is too expensive for this kind of setting. So far we've found settings around $1300 or a lil more (white gold of course). I need to know if this is too high of a price for white gold because I feel sometimes things are marked up in any jewelery store. FYI, we're working through B&M family owned business.
The diamond I'm looking for is about .5 - .7 for the center stone, Princess cut or Radiant cut, depending upon what sort of settings my jeweler finds upon further investigation. So far stones that we've found that we can afford are between E - G color and SI1 or VS1, VS2.
I'm will hear from the jeweler on monday as to what styles she can get for me and how much they cost. I will post the prices online once I find out (I'll also need your help then too!)
But until then everyone's input is greatly appreciated. I'm really back to square one at this point.
