Hello everyone.

I just got a call from my jeweler and the following stone that was orginally graded by EGL as SI1/D came back from GIA as a SI2/D color. Now, he is saying that he will give me it for 14,000 instead of the 15,000 we orginally spoke about due to the SI2. The stone looked great to me visually. But I am having second thoughts and I don''t know why. I had in the meantime asked him to get me Ideal cut SI1 G stones and he is having a very hard time coming across those. What do you guys think of these specs and the price? I truely value your opinions. Thanks in advance.

There's a G SI2 H&A on the pricescope search (above - click on pricescope) for $12,193:

I'm not sure if the 2.2 HCA applies with a thin girdle - I think it presumes medium (though I understand that very thin is an issue for mounting, but thin is usually ok). Maybe you should be shopping around.

As long as the symmetry is not too bad this is probably a very bright stone.
It would be better to have angles than %'s - if you could get a sarin report that would help.
Was it EGL or EGL USA? - the cert makes it very clear which it is.
The out of roundness says the symmetry can not be fantastic.

daboyzmomi,

There are better bargains than the 2.0 D/SI2 that was offered to you. Meaning a 2.0 D/SI2 diamond of similar proportions and price but much better symmetry. My recommendation is to continue looking before you settle for the diamond that your jeweler has shown you.

I would definitely consider going down in color to get a better cut diamond.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I really wanted to stay in the SI1 category, but it definately was eye clean for an SI2. It was orginally graded by EGL Israel, and I asked that it be sent to GIA to verify that info because I knew it wasn't SI1, and wanted to make sure of what I was getting. I am torn as to what to do. I think I will go look at it one more time, take it out in sunlight etc again and decide what do to. I am about to give up though. UGH,,,,

Ok I have been once again weighing my options carefully and have come across this stone to compare with the above mentioned stone. Here are the measurements. Think this is a better stone? Opinons always welcome and greatly appreciated!

Thanks Giangi! I agree,,,the GOOD on polish is a concern to me as well. Hopefully someone can give me an idea which one of these 2 choices are better. Our wedding vow renewal is on Nov. 8th in Vegas, so I have to have this settled pretty quick. I keep kicking my hubby in the butt for not going out looking for this back in the summer like I had asked him too,,,,arghhhhhhhhh. Anyone out there with any other thoughts? How would the Ideal Scope possibly look for this stone compared to first one? I am in the process of contacting the vendor for more info as well. Thanks guys!

Are you sure that is an AGS certified diamond?
If so what aGS grade is it?

Definately AGS 0...

I smell what Garry's cookin'.

Don't think you can get an AGS 0 cut grade with GOOD polish, and doesn't AGS give Ideal as its top grade rather than Excellent?

This is a very reputable online vendor so I don't think they would try to pull a fast one on me. I have them also sending me stats on one other stone in their stock and when I get all that info I will let you all know. Stay tuned, the drama goes on! LOL,,,,,

The main diffrence I can see right now between the two stones they have is one has only Good Polish, and the inclusions are set to the outside edges of the stone. The second stone has EX/EX sym/pol but it's inclusions are in the middle of the table. Both are eye clean. My only concern would be on the one with the inclusions set to the outside, one is a feather and I would be concerned about fracturing. Any opinions?

So D you are now an expert diamond clarity grader.

Inclusion placement is not an issue that meny people understand.

AGS 0 means ideal sym, propo's and polish.
AGS do not use that good term on AGS 0 - are you sure you are not talking about a GIA stone with a dealers sarin report that states AGS 0 proportions?

Not that Good polish would put me off a stone anyway

Well, I never claimed to be new to diamonds. Just the new technology out these days. I use to be a Diamond Consultant 10 yrs ago, so yes I do know how I like my inclusions placed. I personally prefer them off to the sides, but with the feather I am a little concerned. I will see what I think when I get the pics.

I spoke with this company today and asked if this was an AGS 0 or AGS 1,,,was told it was definately an O, not an H&A cut, but very close to it. Which I am ok with. I have seen the AGS report and all looks good to me. I will release the name of the vendor as soon as my decision is made, but I assure you, everyone here will approve.

.

As soon as I receive the Sarins I will be back with the new specs on both stones. Just torn as to which inclusion placement I am going to prefer. Any thoughts before Sarins arrive? Would you be concerned about a feather on the edge of the girdle with a Thin/Slightly Thick description?
