Hi everyone,

When I had Andrew 3 and a half years ago, we used the Avent bottles and loved them (I didn''t like Dr. Brown''s because of all of the parts you have to wash).

However, since that time, the BPA free bottles have come out, so I want to replace my old Avent bottles with the new BPA-free kind.

I was going to just buy the new Avents that are BPA-free, but I read some online reviews that said that the new Avent bottles leak & aren''t as good as the old ones, and some people were recommending the new Tommee Tippee bottles from the UK that just became available in the US.

Have any of you used & liked the new Tommee Tippee bottles?

How about the new BPA-free Avents?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I know Pandora loves her Tommie Tippee ones, but they weren''t out yet when I needed bottles. I tried the Soothie ones, and they were a disaster, Kyle had a hard time with the wide-mouth nipples and spilling all over the place. I know they''re a PITA, but Dr. Brown worked best for me. I switched to the cheapie Evenflo ones around 10 months when I got sick of washing all the parts. I would suggest just getting 1 bottle from a couple different brands to see what works best. BRU will take them back if you keep all the packaging and receipt.

Vesper, I used and loved born free, but there are so many more cost effective options out there now. Tommee Tippee wasn''t out when Amelia was born, but I must say, that packaging looks slick!

I used Nuby''s and was really happy with them. I did have to switch out the tops bc their''s are spill proof and she never got the hang of them. I also liked Medela''s and Born Free.

like tgal, i used born free bottles when we gave a bottle. and medela bottles as well just because i could pump right into them.

I had/have the Tommee Tippee ''Closer to Nature'' - I think they''re great.

Really easy to clean, all the bits go in the dishwasher and sterilising in the microwave is really simple (even if DH did melt one of the bottles plus steriliser in the oven

I also had their hand-pump and I have the insulated carry bags for the bottles that work well and velcro round stroller handles etc

The teat is a slow-flow and having watched my SIL feed my nephew with a different brand, I think the CtN ones are far more like an actual breast. Daisy never had any nipple confusion problems with them.

I love the Medela, especially if you are going to pump. Only problem is that now at 9 months the nipple is small enough that her mouth is big enough to cover almost all of the nipple and when she sucks hard the nipple collapses. Not a huge deal especially since we only have a few months left with the bottle.

we are using Avent and have not had any issue with leaking other than ''user error'' aka we screw the cap on too tight. most of the reviews also say if you screw the cap on too tight it will leak.

we have the Born Free but Greg took one look at the contraption and said no to cleaning it. i checked out the Tommy Tippee reflux bottles and they have an even contrapier-contraption than the BF so i knew he wouldn''t be a fan of that one either! so we are sticking with Avent so far and we just use slower flow nipples (we are still on 1''s even though he could take a 2 at his age).

Thanks so much for all the replies so far, everyone. I didn''t even think about the Born Free bottles - I had a coupon for the Tommee Tippees, so I bought a small pack of 2, and we''ll see how the new baby likes them, I guess.

Great idea on the Medela bottles - I have one of their fancy breastpumps (the one that one popular back in ''06) and it came with a few storage bottles, but it''s a great idea to use those if they make nipples that fit on top of the bottles as well - I''ll look for them at BRU.

With Andrew, I BFed for 3 months, and supplemented once a day with formula, and pumped as well, so I did a mix of breast & bottle from day one. We were lucky that he never had nipple confusion, but I had HORRIBLE thrush that was uncurable, and that was part of the reason that we stopped after 3 months. With thrush, you have to be hypervigilant about sterilizing everything, so the less parts the better. I think I''ll get one of the Born Free bottles as well and see how the new little guy likes those as well as the TTs.

Mara - thanks for the tip on the Avent. Maybe I will buy one of those & see if the leaking is actually an issue (it sounds like it isn''t if you use it properly) because I already have the Avent sterilizer, so that would be the easiest choice.

We use Born Free (first started with Advent). We found the Born Free to reduce the bubbles and she seems less gassy.

I babysat my nephew a few weeks ago and my brother and SIL use those Dr. Brown''s bottles. They left me to fend for myself and I couldn''t figure out the bottle! My DD eventually figured it out...phew!

I know Dr. Browns has a lot of parts, but we used those and I really liked them. They now make a dishwasher caddy for all the parts, so you just put everything in there on the top rack of the dishwasher. That made it very user friendly for us. Not sure if they had those your first time around.

Just wanted to pop in and say that we just started with the Tommee Tippee bottles this weekend b/c my personality plus 7 week old was hating the bottle and I refused to be the only food source and we LOVE them. He is taking the bottle like a champ now!!

I use the BPA free leaky Avent bottles. They definitely do leak, but I''ve found that I can tell when I screw the nipple on if it''s on correctly or not. If I''m not sure, I shake the bottle a little, and if it starts to leak, I rescrew it on till it doesn''t. It is a bit of a pain, but I tried a bunch of other bottles too, and dealing with the leaks was easier than dealing with all the parts on other bottles.

The tommy tippee bottles weren''t out yet when ds was born so I never tried those, but they might be worth a try. I tried the drop-ins and vent-aires and a born free one I got for free.

re Avent leaking..so weird we totally don't have any issues at all!! i am a nazi about making sure the nipple is in the nipple holder though and press it on all sides and pull it til it practically snaps off, so maybe that helps?? and if we screw it on too tight it will leak a bit. but i just make sure it's on but not too tight and it's fine. the only leaks are out of our kid's lazy mouth hehe.

No leaking issues with the Avent bottles for us either. Well, I say that, but since I''m never the one to give Claire the bottle, I guess I don''t know for sure.
