At the end of my pregnancy with JT, DH and I could literally WATCH him going with the beat in utero. He "danced" all the time as an infant. We play a lot of music. His dancing never changed with the type of music we listened to so I''m sure it was just the beat. However, I think he could recognize some songs. When I was pregnant I listened to a Jim Croce CD all the time. As an infant, when he was fussy, I could put on the CD and it would calm him down. Even now he claims that his favorite song is off of the CD.
I believe music was discovered before speech, so it makes sense on a very basic brain activity level.
My bff''s little girl rocks out to Michael Jackson. She''ll be 3 in June and it''s pretty funny to watch her. She watches his videos and imitates what he does.
Sophia is a sucker for salsa music because that''s all I listen too
. MIL dances with her every day. She holds out her hand and says "bailar Sophia?" and Sophia grabs her thumb to dance. It''s so cute. Now if I''m carrying her and have my hand out for whatever reason, she''ll grab my thumb and expects me to dance. It''s so funny.
Daisy had zero interest in music until about six weeks ago when she suddenly started to dance if music came on the television.
If she''s on my knee then she''ll tap her feet, if she''s on the floor then she''ll stand up and dance holding onto things. I was suprised how good her sense of rhythm was.
Definite preference for types of music though - Beyonce''s ''Single Ladies'' is a big hit, things like Dolly Parton, Ennio Morricone, Jazz and Latin American go down well, but opera, rap and most classical isn''t so popular.
I was rocking out to Lady Gaga in the car this morning and DH looked at me like I was totally insane. I told him I was dancing with Bun. He still thinks I''m crazy.
