OK so I tried googling this but I can't really find anything so I figured I'd ask y'all :)

The bathroom. It really smells after FI goes #2. It really bothers me, I almost can't go in there for like 30 mins afterwards. I haven't talked to him about it (what would I say??) Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for good deodorizers?

Good God, I can't believe you're going to marry a man who's poo stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unacceptable!

um....poop smells. open a window, turn on a fan or light a match.

If you're really concerned about the smell and you think there might be something wrong with your FI then have him go see his doctor.

Has he been tested for Crohns disease or anything along that line?

Um, poop stinks. Did you not get the memo?

I don't really think discussing the issue will help... what can he do? Not poop?

Try a few deodorizers, turn on the fan. Hold your breath? Buy a place with 2 toilets?

no, I don't think there is anything wrong with him. it just bothers me and I don't know if I should bring it up or just go buy some Glade plug-ins. Unfortunately our bathroom does not have a window as we are in a rather small apartment. I am hoping that one day we can have multiple bathrooms but for now it is what it is. I also poop in there and have no problems with any smell. Yes, it smells, but it does not LINGER on.

MC does Crohn's disease affect young males?

ETA I just read that it does affect young males, especially of Jewish ancestry. He seems perfectly healthy though.

That last one works miracles. Trust me.

Have you tried Glade plug ins or the ones from bath and body works? That is what I use in the bathroom with my cat box. lol They work okay WITH the fan on.

After 20 years your olfactory system will either get accustom to the smell or just die altogether rendering you unable to distinguish between poop smell and roses. In my case, luckily we have 3 bathrooms and we can all just avoid each other at the appropriate times.

I swear my poop doesn't stink either....or maybe we're just immune to our own smells???

I have the airwick spray in the bathroom-motion sensor. Every time anyone enters the bathroom it sprays. Love it.

Also, keep some matches nearby ;)

While uncommon you can get bowel related issues at any age. My DH just had stage 2 colon cancer at age 32 BUT he had symptoms. If your FI's only symptom is stinky poop and he's not complaining of stomach pain, pooping issues etc then he just has stinky poop simple as that.

oh man I can't wait to get a place with 2 toilets. I was thinking maybe if I bring it up he could flush sooner? I'll be getting some Glade or AirWick or something for sure

I just did a quick google and a site says it can affect even in 20s and 30s (I think it's the same page as you read). I don't know a lot about it, but do know that my friend's husband has it and he was DX in his early 20s. There is also Celiac. Both can be problems without a lot of symptoms. Maybe it's just what he's eating??? lol Sorry! (ETA - I know two young people with Celiac. One is a child and the other is in her early 20s...)

Tell him to eat a high fiber diet? The longer food sits inside the body, the more time it has to breakdown, that is the cause of the smell. People who go #2 frequently have less stinky poop according to my husband and son who go at least 3X a day!

Absolutely teach him about the "courtesy flush". This is a key to a good marriage/friendship/co-worker relationship etc. ALWAYS courtesty flush people! Less air time is the key :D

Light a match!! Or two...or maybe three. It gets rid of the smell pretty effectively. :praise:

Ask for a courtesy flush in the middle. That's what DH does on his own accord (and now you know why I married him;-)), and it helps a ton. Sometimes he asks me to courtesy flush too, but not always. Just on bad tummy days.

Mine doesn't. I've sent hubby in to sniff around before.

Now THAT'S awkward!

This. But your husband has to be willing to put a few drops in the toilet before he does his business. The stuff works miracles. I'm also a fan of "The Drops."

DH won't allow me near the bathroom after he goes. He's so considerate. We do have two toilets though so that helps.

My girlfriend has a 15yo son and, when he goes, it stinks up the whole apartment. It's been this way since he was 2. Once, he used the toilet at our house and for days, DH kept saying, "I can't get that smell out of my nose!".

YES. My husband and I couldn't go on vacations together without it.

Oh goodie another toilet thread, my favorite.
These go on for pages and pages.

According to this link poo smells worse when the diet includes less-healthy food.

I read it on the Internet so it must be true.

haha I think I came across that site when googling this problem. FI eats a very healthy diet though...

wow! thanks so much. I had never heard of these drops before. I am glad to hear I am not the only person with this problem.

The courtesy flush is a work place must. My DH uses it too, sometimes. I might invest in some of those drops though. That stuff sounds miraculous. Now, do they make something like that for farts too? :Up_to_something:

If only!!!

We both commit to courtesy flushes and matches. We've never smelled each other's poop and I'm great with that! :cheeky:
