Hey guys! With all the talk lately of average diamond ering sizes in the US, it got me thinking what''s the average for us Down Under?! I can''t seem to find this info?

I personally only ever see half carat stones in erings when I see friends/colleges erings? Is this the norm here?

Does anyone have any idea?

Ta!

I'm guessing the average is probably around 0.5-0.75ct

(I live in Australia and my e-ring is 0.35ct)

This link doesn''t mention engagement ring size, but it does say what the average Aus e-ring budget is apparently: http://i-weddings.blogspot.com/2007/04/planning-statistics-and-facts-about.html

Not what you were looking for, but maybe interesting...? Possibly?

oops double post

hi honey! how have you been??

i have a friend in australia whose ring is .5 ct (with a yellow gold band too!)

I work for a commercial jeweller in Victoria, and going by the rings that we tend to sell on average to our customers I''d say the average would be pretty spot on to what kathyinjapan said, .50ct-.75ct with a number of 1ct+ being sold from time to time. I''d say 9 out of 10 of the rings I sell are .50ct! Mostly round or princess solitaires, some 3-stones, in white gold settings, maybe a third or so are yellow gold.

Interesting question. I''d love to know the answer too.

My ring has a .5ct centre and two .25 sides (princess cuts) with yellow gold band. Most of the ladies'' rings at work vary with stones from .25 to over 1ct.

I don''t have a lot of engaged/married friends, but I would guess their rings would be between .5 and 1ct.

I''m in Brisbane, but I suspect that Sydney and Melbourne would have a larger average size.

Two close friends both their rings are .25ct princess cut center stones one of the rings has channel set RB''s and that takes it to .35ctw. Another friend recently got engaged and her ring from the photo''s looks like a .5ct RB, I don''t know the specs. I would think the average is around .25-.50ct around here.

I would really love to know the answer

Hi there.....

I''m from Sydney and mine is a D, SI1, 2.12ct RB...

I got my girl a .56ct solitaire. Her friends are within .25ct on either side. I think the biggest is around .75-.80ct for the centre stone.

I''m in Perth and I tell ya 1ct+ doesn''t seem to be very common at all and most of the girls are getting bigger e-rings than their mothers.

I''m from Melbourne - I''ve got a D SI1 1.1 carat cushion with nearly an extra carat of baguettes in the band.

Most of my friends have e-rings ranging from 1 carat - 1.5 carat. Having said that, they are all largely in the professional arena (lawyers, accountants etc) and they and their husbands/fiances earn reasonably good salaries.

Nice topic Honey!
I have a 3 stone that totals about 0.75, so probably on the small side.
On a funny note, I have just gone and tried on a 1.1ct in anticipation of my upgrade - and it looked enormous! and they didn''t even have a 1.25 to show me..lol, this is going to be so funny if I do get the 1.25 from GOG. I''m going to be the local freak!

I live in Melbourne (25yrs) and have a AGS0 1.12 RB. I have one friend with a 1.50 but all the other are about .50ct.

Woo Hoo....!!

So nice to see that there are so many Aussies here.

When I got engaged 22years ago my ring at .93 was considered large. I upgraded last year to a 1.32 from GOG and it doesn't seem large at all

. In my older friends it is with their orginal erings but you younger folk often have very impressive rings.

FYI, for the past ~15 months, our average (mean) GIA or AGS certified diamond weight is about 0.84ct. Bear in mind, that includes earring and pendant sales.

Also, anything square or square-ish (princess, asscher, radiant) seems popular at the moment.

When I was engaged to an Aussie and living in Australia, my engagment ring was .53......

I think I want to move to Australia.

I''m in Sydney and I''m waiting on the BF to propose with a 1.06 E VS2 cushion.

My friends and family all fall within the .5 - .75 range with the odd exception of around .9 / 1.0 ct for a center stone

Also keep in mind that diamonds are more expensive here in Aust than those from America. There is less choice and less easy ways to try before you buy!!! The postage system here is really expensive as is insurance, so the idea of buying diamonds over the net and returning them by post is really cost prohibitive for most people.

The culture in general is not into wearing huge jewells whether you can afford it or not. In general appearance is not on the top of most peoples agenda!!!! It is a more casual society that does not use jewellery as a way of showing status or position. Well thats been my experience anyway.

So I would say on average the size worn is .2 to .7. You are more likely to see multiple small diamonds chosen as opposed to one upgrade to mark occasions and for girt giving. In very affluent circles you do see the odd 2 to 3 carat but its not too common.

My 4 carat ring pretty much puts me in the category of total freak & people react like they are seeing things.
