Ok so it's not really the Metal Years, the part two part made me think of a documentary I used to watch over and over, Decline of Western Civilization Part Two The Metal Years and it made me giggle. I realize I'm a dork and am probably the only one here to ever have watched it..

Sooo..the saga continues..I ended up going with a bigger center for my three stone. Sight unseen basically. I just sent my three stone back to GOG and they took the stones out, I wired the money for the new center and then they sent the stones on to Singlestone for me. The new center is a .71 L AVC, and the proportions are much better for me, for this project. There wasn't anything wrong w/my other center, I liked having them all pretty much identical in size, just for the design I ultimately decided on, I felt it needed the bigger center for juuuuust a tish more graduation.

I'd been talking with Mike Robinson, and posted the sketches he'd done for me. They're gorgeous, and man if he's not completely amazing to work with! I just ended up moving in a different direction is all..It was a hard decision, but I just kept coming back to loving Coati's yg three stone, and I knew that was the right one for me.

My ring will be unplated 18k wg, and will look just a smidge different than Coati's in that it will have an open gallery. I love Uppy's JM three stone, and her open gallery in that ring just is so beautiful to me. I'm working w/Heather at Singlestone, and I did ask for a sketch or something first, to see how the open gallery would look. If it wasn't going to work then I would give that part up. They did CAD's for me-they don't use them, but it helps to give an idea of what something will look like at least, and they're very helpful I think! Heather said the bezels on the sides, the profile view, will have to be a little thicker, but I don't think it will make a difference, really.

I'm torn on a wedding band at the moment...I'd planned on a certain ring, but it's rhodium plated, and I wonder how it would look w/an unplated ring!

I really like the CAD's! I think it is a beautiful, rather unique style. I think you're going to enjoy the center stone being a bit larger too.

How long until completion? Can't wait to see the ring finished.

I admire your tenacity - just keep trying until you get it exactly the way you want it - I truly think you're on to something here though!

Thanks MGR! I think it's about 6-8 weeks for completion..somewhere around there.

I think it's more..paralyzing fear that I'm going to make the wrong decisions!

I can't wait to see this projected completed. I love your AVCs they are stunning and the setting is wonderful

I don't like everything but this ring is very visually appealing to me - not that I'm an expert or anything but I am picky! I just think you're really gonna like those stones bezel set and the ring really has a presence to it. It's always nerve wracking but I really think this is going to be special!

I love every Singlestone ring I have seen!! This is going to be AMAZING!!!! I hope 6-8 weeks fly :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Packrat I think you have inched your way towards a really awesome end product! Love it.

Oh, and you can have rhodium removed I believe :read:

Thanks guys!

Dreamer..haha I swear I have to be the poster most others would want to strangle w/all my hmm I dunno but maybe what if or how 'bout that agonizing over everything..and then at the very end, saying feck it and running full tilt like Phoebe on Friends.

I'm happy tho! It's a lot of money to spend, and that did send me into several near panic attacks, knowing I could get something awfully close somewhere else for less, but I want it to be exactly perfect forever, and I figure the best way to do that is to go where Coati had hers made. That's one of my reasonings for spending the extra on a bigger center stone..I figured I better go as big as I can on these puppies so down the road I'm not wishing for bigger and then I'm stuck. It's a lot more than what I'd budgeted for the entire project when I first started, especially w/added postage cost, and losing about 100% of the cost of the original five stone setting and then again on the temp yg three stone setting..but still, I have reasoned to my husband that divided by almost 11 years of marriage so far, it's not so bad, and in the long run, that cost goes down every year we're married so really I'm kind of a bargain. :saint:

I should maybe ask Heather if the leaf ring I want would be a good match if they took the plating off it..maybe it will work out in the end!

Looks gorgeous so far!

When you have the *right* diamond(s) and the *right* setting, the price seems not to matter as much anymore :)) Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

Whoa, 3 AVCs, you lucky lady! I really love the look of bezel three stones and I can't wait to see yours done!

Have you noticed setting avcs with the bottom over metal vs a setting over bare skin having any effect on the look of the culets? I'm also planning on getting an antique cushion (or oval if I can find one!) with a large culet and want to highlight it.

It's going to be stunning!! Can't wait to see the finished ring!

Thanks guys! :appl: I'm super excited!

sixbillionstars, I don't think I'd be much help w/that. I'd maybe start a thread here in RT and ask for setting ideas..the posters here have some sort of innate ability to find pictures that show what you're wanting to do, and give ideas on how to accomplish it. And plus..it's more fun stuff to look at!

Hi Packrat,

I have been waiting to see how you end up setting those AVC's. I love the Coati & Uppy rings, too! I'm sure your ring will be fabulous, you can't go wrong with SS, that's for sure. I love your cost per year analysis! I'm also plunking down some serious budget stretching cash after 14 yrs & try to justify everything I buy in cost per year. Our hubbys don't stand a chance against such great logic :appl:

I love it packrat!

I didn't know that Coati's ring was made by SS, how cool! I agree if her ring is the one that made your heart sing, you are making the right decision.

And honestly, I like this new concept better. It's simpler in terms of elements, and to me a bit more classic.

Woofmama, haha yeah, I thought that was some brilliant logic, myself! More reason for him to stay married to me since I get cheaper as the years go by..which means I can really push his buttons and if he doesn't want to lose money on the deal he's stuck. muaaaahhhhahaha

Thanks Junebug and TGal! It's funny, every time I look at Coati's ring, my heart flutters and I just want to audibly sigh. It makes me smile every time I see it. So now, since I've got such a deep love for hers, I hope I love MINE just as much!

Am going to have them make me a wedding band as well, so the metals will be the same. They are starting this week on the three stone!!!
