Avatar pics?

This may seem like a silly question but every time I put up an avatar picture it always looks distorted. I resize it to 96 mega pixels like it says to do. Am I missing something? I resize in photoshop. Any help would be great.

I think I used this site and I dont remember it being distorted but that was a while back before a PSer modified it
for me and put my name on it so...not sure if they changed it somehow.
