Authentic check- David Yurman ring

I purchased this petite Wheaton Morganite and diamond David Yurman ring from a reputable seller. Unfortunately it arrived with what appears to be a chip on the silver. Are DY rings plated? Why would it chip? Also this area below the crown looks really wonky...
Is this all normal and acceptable for David Yurman?
