It's Australia Day, I think many of our dear US friends should come on a long holiday here to escape Trump, if you do here is a list of some of our more popular Aussie words;

:lol: I'm not from the US and have watched many episodes of Home and Away in my youth but most of those are new to me! Very educational.

Actually the sad part is we really do use more than half of them in every day speech.... :bigsmile:

Happy Australia Day!! :)

Thank you, it's stinking hot so it usually involves a BBQ, a pool or the beach.....

Have you watched "The Glitch" on Netflix? It's based in a small Australian town, I wondered how accurate their language was to 'real' Australians haha. Thank you for sharing! Happy Australia day!

My favourite show is Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries which is proudly Australian. It's one of the best made television shows I've seen. I'm looking forward to the feature length movie although from what I've read it won't be set in Australian which is disappointing.

I'd love to go to Australia for a visit but I don't know if I would survive the flight. I'd have to be knocked unconscious for the duration :lol:

I've never watched "The Glitch" or "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" although the latter is very popular here I believe. Both were filmed in Victoria.

My DH traveled all over the world while in the military - Japan, Greece, Italy, France, etc...Australia was his favorite place! He said the people there were simply great. Enjoy your day!

(ETA - yes, we're Americans - and we would live to get away from trump, lol).

I would LOVE to come to AUS! Both to get away from Trump AND because it's on my "bucket list" for places to travel. Particularly because I have a strange love for wombats, koalas, and other adorable creatures.

But sadly, the many poisonous animals freak me the heck out.

A bit late now, but..

A friend who lives in Melbourne shared this on her FB feed! I thought it was hilarious :)

Mochiko, that is hilarious! Now I can go to bed after a good belly laugh. :lol: :lol:

Mate, plenty of prawns on the Barbie, on Stralya day..... Yes that was a real sentence....

We call them prawns and we call BBQs (what you call Grills or the outside Grill) "the Barbie" yep the same as the doll....

There are some people on this forum from my country that are far more articulate than I am - as far as I knew, there was no L in Strayan!! :lol:

Yep an oldie but a goodie, did you see the guys in Canberra with the clothes line and the improvised slip 'n slide/tarps celebrating Australia Day the Aussie way? Link;

Haha no I hadn't seen that! How ingenious! I wonder if there were any ER visits that evening? :lol:
