Going next week, business

I''ll be there 7 days, so does anyone have ideas to keep me busy
other than shopping!!

Restaurants? Nice kind to take a client kind of thing.
Nobu at the restaurant - good?

Regarding shopping, is it cheaper to buy perfume (Dior) there, it is isn''t it?
I been throughout the Carribbean, but never figured out if it really was worth it.

Ooh, I just love it there

. Whe are just a 30 minute flight from there and go whenever we can. I think Nobu is amazing. One of my favorite restaurants ever. I love Greycliff, which is on the neighboring Nassau island (just across the bridge).I had my wedding reception there. http://www.graycliff.com/

The neighboring Ocean Club is to die for. I would definitely try to eat there if you can. Oprah and Barry Bonds have homes surrounding the OC so you can imagine how luxurious it is.

Sorry, not sure about the perfume question.

My husband really wants to try Nobu
The Ocean Club sounds wonderful, I''ll google it, thanks!

Here is the link to the Ocean Club. It is also called the One & Only. The Dune restaurant has a bar that is right on the gorgous torquise water. There is a picture on the site. Have a great trip and report back what you thought!

It''s been a few years since I was there, but I remember that while some of the rooms are great, most of the beach tower was just awful. I went with my parents and I had a great room overlooking a lagoon while they had a room overlooking the parking lot with beds that almost collapsed when you sat on them. Everything was really expensive, especially the bottled water.

But I had a great time!

The pools and beach are great, the aquariums are just amazing, and the restaurants were good, but I remember needing reservations early on. I don''t know if they have the same ones, and it doesn''t sound like it, but I really liked the one down in "the dig" and also the one at the top of the dig with the big windows looking into the water. The pools closed at 5, which sort of forces you to go to the casino, restaurants, or comedy club. That was kind of annoying because I love to swim at night.

We didn''t do much off resort besides a snorkeling expedition, but I was definitely not bored on property. The perfume may be a little cheaper duty free, but be careful where you pack it considering the liquids ban.

I hate big huge places like that, but for business it is great. We stayed at his other property, the One and Only Ocean Club (the one in the new Bond movie where he wins the cool car)...so I cannot say much. I happen to love roulette and there is a huge casino, and you can get a ride into the part of town where all the cruise ships drop passengers (tons of jewelry stores etc) but that is over a bridge I think...I would work out and read and relax as much as I could...

ETA: Jazmine, we also ate at Grey Cliff...it was lovely! I do not think Nobu was there at the time we went. The Ocean Club was lovely and peaceful...

we will be staying at the Royal Towers, which I hear is their best tower, if that''s saying anything at all.

I wonder if the spa is good?

I''ll be fine, give me a chaise, a stack of magazines and a drink by the pool.
Throw in a little shopping, nice dinners (hopefully)

I think we are booked for some snorkeling trip, but I bet the water will be too cold for me,
heck, I don''t even swim in my own pool at home til June, got to have nice bathtub warm water!

oohh Atlantis, such a great place!

My brother in law lives down there and we have been to see him twice, most recently last January.
We have never stayed in Atlantis (we stay at his place) but we have used the facilities, bc he had a friend with a yacht there so we used his guest passes...

Anyways,
The shopping in Atlantis is expensive, go downtown, you can take the watertaxi from just under the bridge for about a buck. You will also get a good story from the tour guide, lol.
There is a new section of Atlantis called "Marina Village" and there is a steak restaurant that is incredible. We bought the meat from the butcher there and took it home and cooked it, it was wonderful. It''s called the seafire steakhouse. And you must try the buffet there, it is called The MArketplace. PLease don''t shy away bc it is a buffet, it is $50/person and it has everything you could imagine...seafood, steak, pasta, pizza,(all cooked to order) desserts ( a chocolate fountain my fave!) and more.

Oh and about the pools, there is only 1 pool that is heated, which I don''t understand why.. you will know which one it is bc that is where everyone will be sitting! hahaa

both times we have been down there have been at this time of year and I found all of the other pools way to cold for me, the ocean is warmer than they are.

Oh, and the Royal towers is the newest section and is "the best".

I would suggest doing a dolphin encounter if you have time/desire to get up close with a dolphin?? there is a place called Dolphin encounters who does it in a lagoon, however I believe Atlantis was putting one in, with dolphins that were displaced from hurricane Katrina, so that''s kinda cool.

We have never eaten at "the one and only ocean clubs" but we have been on the property and it IS a site to see!! My bro in law and his friends there do all rave about it.

Anyway, I hope this helps some, sorry it is so long winded!!
I am in Mexico right now (Nuevo Vallarta), trying to learn the fun things to do here, so any advice you have, send it my way!!

Have a great time!

thanks, Sophie

I did read the pools there were freezing, hope at least one is heated, but my luck, it will be
a hike to get to.

the water taxi sounds fun, does it drop you at the shopping streets? Hey, a girl has to know!

Oh yeah, the Marketplace in Atlantis has the absolute best buffet I have ever seen. More food and varieties than you can even imagine. We usually eat breakfast there every single morning.

Ann, you will love the royal towers. They are the best. And yes, everything at the Atlantis is waaaay over priced. Small (tiny) bottles of water are $4. A banana at a walk in coffee place/breakfast place was $4 also I believe.

yup, the watertaxi will drop you off in front of the straw market, where you haggle for soveniers and crafty things. walk through the straw market to the other side (the street side) and you will see tons of shops, jewelry, perfume, etc...It will be cheaper than in Atlantis.

ooohhh, Atlantis resort is my favorite place in the world! And DH and I have been to very many warm places :)

We stayed in the Royal Towers, it was so unbelieveably gorgeous! We were there during Michael Jordan's golf tournament, so we got to rub elbows with tons of celebrities at the casino. So, make sure you bring some nice paper for autographs!

We ate at numerous resturants while we stayed there, and I regret that I dont remember the names of them all. BUt I can say that we loved the food at all of them, no complaints at all.

yes, its expensive, but so goes it on vacation.

I agree, you must do the swim with the dolphins.....it was one fo the neatest things I've ever done. And splurge for the pictures of it, ita a great memory, one that I am so glad to have.

Also, at the hotel, make sure you do the HUGE body slide into the pool, it is soo scary, but so fun!

Tkae the boat into Nassau to the flea market....be ready to be called "pretty lady" 5 thousand times, and learn how to say NO :)

Have a great time!

Jetmal-
How funny-I was there for that MJ tournament, too! I remember he was signing autographs by the pool for kids-very sweet. What an amazing trip that was!

I also agree that Royal Towers is the way to go-it's nice and the most convenient to everything.

I've had dinner at Dune and the Courtyard terrace restaurant at the Ocean Club a few times, and both were great.

The nightclub in the casino "Dragons"? is really fun.

Marketplace buffet for breakfast is definitely a must.

If you can get an ocean view, the view of all of the pools lit up at night is one of the most fantastic I've seen anywhere!

Jetmal-I have to disagree-that Mayan Temple slide is terrifying!!! My dad made me do it and I still haven't forgiven him!

The straw market in town is really cool-I picked up the greatest souvenirs for a good price and everyone was really nice.

My biggest advice is to bring a least one good sweater and pants! I've always gone in late Dec/ early Jan and more often than not there have been some really chilly days.

I'm so jealous!!! Have a great trip!

ETA: About the spa: I've only had one massage and it was pretty good, but you can go into the salt water pool (thera...something:)) at the spa for around $15 and it is so relaxing.

thanks everyone
I checked the weather there and it's around mid 70's high
For this Texas girl, that's not hot, not warm, but chilly !
I get cold so easily - I hope I have enough warm clothes.

are jackets required in most restaurants in the resort?
DH is a light packer, he doesn't subscribe to my motto

Jackets are required in a few of the nicest restaurants there. In Nobu, they are recommended but when we last went there were some guys with jeans and polo shirts on. They seem pretty lax; I don''t think they would say anything unless you had some pretty ratty clothes on (or pool attire).

I loved the Atlantis---

It was a bit busy, but that is typically what happens when you put everything needed at one hotel! I LOVED the shopping, the beachers/ocean, the pools (they were not too cold at all), the rooms, views, casinos, and most of all...FOOD.

I hope to go back soon, but we may go to Rome instead. A totally different type of trip!
