I think if you bring a food dish it should not be aged at all.

The food should be fresh.

Ever made cheese, Kenny?

That stuff can age awfully quickly...

ROFL. You are a stitch, Kenny.

didn''t read thru all the replies, but i wouldn''t expect anyone to bring any food to my place, unless it was potluck, or somehow understood that the meal was a joint effort. If that was indeed understood, i wouldn''t outright expect anything from anyone, but one dish per family or couple seems to be the norm.
I hosted a dinner party this past monday and yes, it was very expensive. But i chose to host it and so obviously i knew what i was getting into. Entertaining isn''t cheap .
