18, and I don't vote. It doesn't honestly feel worth it when my state/area always leans overwhelmingly to the opposite side I'm on :((

DF-if you don't vote I don't want to hear you whine about the government anymore. You forfeit the right to complain if you don't even take part in the political system!

See what you did DF?? You made me agree with thing2!!

Of course it's good-I'm always right!

I missed being able to vote in the 1980 presidential election by less than a month. Grrrrr! I so wanted to! But I registered after that...don't really recall exactly when. Soona after though, I'm sure.

I registered the day I turned 18 so I could vote against W. Bush.

17!

I had to register at 17 because you have to register 30 days before an election in Michigan. The 2000 election was on Nov 7. My 18th birthday was Nov 5. I just squeaked by!!

18. I live in a country where it is compulsory to vote. I think they handed out registration forms at the end of high school (when I was 17) to make enrollment easier.

I think it was when I was about 19. But I've been living abroad for about 8 years so I haven't voted since 2003.

They're just conservatives that haven't 'ripened' yet. Give them time, a bit of perspective, a tad of experience. A lot of them will 'turn'. :wink2:

Not thing though, or ksinger. They're die hards. Yellow dogs. :cheeky:

Exactly what I did too!

Holly and others, I've heard an interesting saying: If you're 20 and a conservative, you have no heart...if you're 40 and a liberal, you have no brain. Well, I'm 28 and have both brain and heart, and I'm as liberal as they get, at least socially. And I always will be a social liberal for the rest of my life because of my views on certain topics. But I'm becoming more fiscally conservative over time, so I think I'll end up squarely in Libertarian territory by the time I'm middle-aged.

It's funny, I've actually gone more liberal with age... the more I understand about certain industries, the more I want to let the gov't run them (airlines, cable, internet service). I guess the liberal elite in academia finally got me!

yup, lets make the rich pay for my plane tickets, cable and internet service... :appl:

No excuses, I'm not registered. Don't particularly plan to either. No interest in election, no interest in politicians, and therefore I understand that I'm allowed no complaints.

The week I turned 18. I'm very punctual!

Ditto to the bold, only I'm 29. If my dad can be a staunch Catholic and remain extremely socially liberal at 74, I think I'll manage to stay liberal for the rest of my life...

You should probably lump me in with Thing and ksinger Holly...

I've gotten more liberal over time, actually. The more living I do and the more experience I gain, the more I see how absurd most of the conservative policies are. It helps that the conservatives are getting kookier and kookier these days. Let's hope they kooky themselves right out of office. ;))

Oh, I do, Freke, I do. :wink2:

Ain't that the truth . . . . sometimes even I want to say "Oh, just shut the he** up already!"

And, I don't believe Arnold the A**clown Adulterer is helping raise the bar. :nono:

See, we agree on more than you might realize. ;))

Hey, ever since you said you wanted Hillary in 2008 I knew you couldn't be a totally kooky Republican! ;))

I'd still rather have Hillary. I tried. It's hard for my Demo vote in a primary to mean much - - in Texas. And, in order to vote Democrat in that primary, I did not get to vote for a friend who was running for a state legislative seat as a Republican. He did not win. It was a lose-lose moment.

Would it shock you to know that I voted for Clinton in 1992? Or that I voted for the Democratic Congressman for our District through seven elections from 1990 - 2002?

Not everyone who considers themselves to be conservative on many issues is a down the line, by the book, Republican. I would never go into the booth and pull one lever, you know? I vote for the person, their ideas, their drive and passion, and whether they have the necessary cojones to do the job. One really does have to have the cojones. Hillary has her own pair, and sometimes she might actually sport Bill's. :wink2:

...fell over....

Well, Freke, I actually think Clinton did a fair job.

He left us a balanced budget and a surplus.

He gave us some decent welfare reform.

He was a great public speaker (as is Hillary), a good motivator, had a sense of humor (if not a sense of humility). He had the good sense to actually work with his Congress, especially after the mid-term elections gave him a wake-up call. People from both sides of the aisle actually liked him. Well, except for those "vast right wing conspiracy" folks. :wink2:

Now if he could just have kept it in his pants . . .

i don't mind Hillary being our next President but it doesn't look like she's gonna run in 2012.

M.B vs Hillary in 2012 would be great!! ...i'd prefer a lady President in office.
