Hi gang,

I'm in charge of finding another 1.7-1.8 carat G/(eyeclean) SI1 (or better), ideal cut round brilliant-- this time it's for my own engagement ring ;) I got my soon-to-be fiancee (female) a 1.7 carat/G/SI1/HCA 1.4 and it's beautiful. It faces up more like a 1.8-1.85 at 7.88mm, so finding something similar hasn't been easy. It's a 60/60 diamond, and I kinda love it-- would love another one!

Budget: under $17k ideally. Did prices go up dramatically in the past month? I paid $15k for her diamond and am not seeing ANYTHING that low now.

Thoughts on these? Would love James Allen or Eternity Diamonds because they have settings I like.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-329424 (will the smaller diameter really look that much smaller than my GF's ring?)

This one is huge: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-257550

others, but I don't like their settings, so I'd have to deal with getting it set elsewhere:

Thoughts? Any others that aren't coming up on the HCA calculator tool thingie?

Forgot to mention that I'm color sensitive, so it has to be above G

Well.

This one is leaky as a sieve: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-257550 so it's a pass.

This one is not a very good AGS0. The crown and pavillion angles are way out of ideal range. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-351652 I mean, you could get an idealscope. But... its not a very good option.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-329424 This one is your best option. But it is not available. I hope you are the one that put it on hold.

I already looked around for you. But I'll look a bit more.

My best advice is call Wink at High Performance Diamonds and get him to source a nice stone for you. He's a fantastic vendor.

Okay so. You can go up to 2.5 on the HCA from a vendor with an idealscope. Remember the idealscope is the selection tool. Not the HCA. The HCA is just a sorting tool.

Best option if eyeclean: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-275601 60/60 with great spread. Nicely in budget. PUT ON HOLD NOW. HCA is under 2.

Ask for idealscope: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.63-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-329312

Slightly over budget (can you chip in): http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.73-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-358998

If you can stretch the budget, there is this one: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.65-carat-f-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-353451

Thanks Gypsy! I am the one who put that JA diamond in my first post on hold. I also put the one on hold that you suggested I put on hold ASAP. Of the two- which do you prefer? Both are eye-clean. Any others you like so that I can ask for three ideal scopes?

I'll email Wink tomorrow-- thank you again for all your help!

I am an idiot. It's late ;). I'll check out the other JA diamonds you suggested in the AM.

Any thoughts on the B2C or the EternitybyYoni diamonds?

Zzzzzzz

I can't get the lab report to load for the Yoni stone. Ask if eyeclean, there is a chance since it is a VS2.

The B2C stones are Si1. There is no picture. You'd have to find out if they are eyeclean.

I emailed everyone, next step will be idealscopes. Thanks!

Hi HNL! I recently saw a diamond by Wink from the CBI inventory, a 1.64 ct G/Si2 (twinning wisps). It's diameter is a touch smaller at 7.6 mm but it was gorgeous and the Si2 inclusions did not effect brilliance or transparency. It's a vetted Crafted by Infinity, so you know it's gorgeous and it really was! As an added bonus, it's way under budget at <$14k and you can get 100% credit for future upgrades with CBI. Wink is super great and will do his utmost to help you. I hope it's still available if you are interested and good luck with whatever you choose. You have some great options.

Ludvajules, how is that infinity 1.64 eye clean? I had a look... It looks like a mess...
Do u think it's just the photography?
I'm considering it right now but would have to see it on video...it's a lot smaller than what I wanted to go for...
But maybe better for daily wear... :)

OK, now I'm probably obsessing, but should I be less enthused if a diamond is under 2 on the HCA but only comes up at "Very Good" on Light Return/Scintillation/Fire instead of "Excellent". Or should I shut up already and just wait on idealscope images instead of worrying about what a calculator says?

That diamond is eye clean as those are twinning wisp transparent inclusions. This is part of the reason why you must see a diamond with your own eyes. Looking at a photograph at more than 20x is going to look horrific when to the eyes the diamond is a treasure. We take very large photos of our diamonds so that you can see all there is to see, which sometimes makes them look as you said, a mess. We just believe in full disclosure before you see the diamond so that any surprises are good ones.

Wink

Hi FT, like I mentioned, I did see the 1.64 ct CBI with my own eyes and it's spectacular and eye clean. Twinning wisps are white inclusions and it's well hidden due to the superb cut and faceting (reflecting mirrors). I can't believe it's still in the inventory cause it's a "hidden" gem; I think the reflector images scare people off. However, it's free to see with Wink's See it to Believe it program/benefit so it costs you nothing to view it with your own eyes with no obligation. Also, it's only a little smaller than the 1.7 ct mark, but then again it's also under budget by a few grand. I was impressed, it's a dazzler.

Oooooh fantabulous :) wink has it for me on hold and I can't wait to see it! Did u see it in person ludva or on video? IWhat did u buy in the end?
My bf is going to be so pleased... With the price;)
It's not much smaller than a 1.8 either right? Is crafted by infinity miles better than whiteflash in quality and looks?

Hi FT, I saw it IN PERSON, and it's 7.6mm versus 7.8mm for a 1.8 ct, so that is a visible difference. It's also a G with AGS000, so it will face up big and white and super sparkly! Good luck with your search, please post your reaction/impression after seeing it IRL.

Please link to my post I pasted above to see what I bought, but in the below link I explain my choice.

Ask Wink a lot of questions, he's seen the stone and may be has a video from when he made for me (but not sure). He's very helpful and super knowledgeble and he'll even send you a diamond viewing kit with everything you need to enjoy your new diamond (aset, hearts and arrows viewer, ring holder, stone holder, 10x loupe, etc). During your inspection period, do have it appraised so you know everything you want to know. This gave me a lot of peace of mind and allowed me to stop "shopping".

Hi Ludva,
After much browsing and searching I think I may have found my dealer:) wink is super. Very nice man and excellent diamonds. I think I'm in love with CBI:)
I just saw a video he made for me of that diamond u mentioned.
It does look amazing but I'm still worried about that garnet and rather large crystal under the table... He says it might be visible at 6in if u know where to look and I know my family and friends will want to take a good look at my ring... Wouldn't want them to see..
It's definitely not a mind clean issue.. I have no problems with a neye clean si2...
He gave me a link to the video so u guys can all have a look for me:)
http://handshake2.jivesystems.com/videos/z80gp04xyh

He also says I could get a diamond custom cut to my specs and that's quite enticing.. Would have to wait 3-4 months tho...but I could wait.. :) 7.6 now or 7.8- 7.9 in 4 months... Hmmmm

I'd wait. :-)

Whys that gypsy? Size wise and also that crystal inclusion?

Maybe it's time to start your own thread, huh?

*stealing my thread back for a sec*

I'm waiting on IS images for the 60/60 diamond that Gypsy said to put on hold. Yoni is sourcing it for me. I really hope it's awesome, because my GF is dying to get the ring for me so we can be engaged (she's sweet). If not, JA should have IS images on three other diamonds for me next week. Surely one of them will do, but I love the spread of the 60/60 the most. Having a 60/60 diamond at home already, I love how it performs. It's the brightest white thing ever and soooo sparkly!

Hi HNL, can't wait to hear back on the stones you have on hold. Surely, one of them will be the ONE!

Great news. Please post the Idealscopes when you get them!

Hi FT, just a quick post to let you know that garnet crystal(s) in a diamond are considered collector items by some. Also, the birthstone for January. Below, I linked Garry's comment regarding the garnet crystal in my stone. It's towards the bottom of the thread, tho.
When you're ready, I can't wait for you to start your own thread and hear your reaction to the CBI you're considering!
