I am looking to buy a ring soon. I am stuck between a solitaire and halo setting. My budget is around $6000. I would like to get a stone around 1 carat. Ideal cut, H+ color, SI2+. I think I can achieve a better look with the halo setting since I could get a smaller center stone and not lose the "stun". I am new to the diamond scene and pricescope so any advice is appreciated. Is your budget 6000 for the stone or for stone and setting. For first thought is that your going to have to go down a bit in size to keep the specs that you are looking for. But the good news is that your right, a halo setting will give you more bang for your buck and make a huge impact on her finger! Would you like me to help you search for a stone? I think you can get close to a carat, but probably not exactly one carat if you want to stay with H color and above. I did find this 1.03 (6.4mm) J SI1, which could be great in a solitaire, but the color difference between the main stone and the tiny melee stones in a halo might not be what you want:

Ooh, I like these setting options. So funny we both went for halos with plain shanks! I think it's a really classic look, similar to a solitaire in its simplicity and sleekness, white adding more finger coverage/hand presence.

They are both VS2's but there appears to be an inclusion on the table of the second one. Typically VS2's will be completely eye clean and they are saying this one is as well but you should confirm this to be sure.

At our local jeweler she loved this setting. I just wanted to see if I could find a similar ring for a better price online

I would like to buy the stone and setting together. But if it is significantly cheaper to buy separately then I am open to that.

Also, I currently live in Antigua as I am attending medical school. I have heard rumors that diamonds are much cheaper outside of the U.S. can anyone shed some light on that? There is a place called diamond international here on the island. I just don't know how reputable they are..

hmmm, I'm not sure how prices in the US compare to outside, but I do know that there are lots of international PSers who purchase their diamonds in the states because they tend to be less expensive than their countries. It may also be because of the larger selection, I'm just not sure.

The setting you posted includes the diamond as well, but I forgot to check to see who graded it, I'll take another look. And it will be easy to find a setting similar to the one you posted. Many PSers have a similar setting.

I also can't comment on diamond international, I'm not familiar with them, but I will suggest that you stick with a PS vendor or a vendor that has worked with us, as you can be sure that they are trusted and have proven track records and excellent customer service. Many of them also offer a PS discount for members so there is a savings that way as well.

Here's what I would do:

I'd call Pearlmans and ask for Julian. Tell him Pricescope sent you.

And I would ask for a lovely AGS 0 ideal round 80 point stone or larger for in it. Biggest for your budget. And even GIA Ex/Ex is good with an idealscope (and they can provide you with an idealscope image).

He will find you something beautiful.

I prefer the Beverly K settings and this one is just amazing in person. And with an 80 point-ish stone it will give you a lot more presence than a 1 carat solitaire.
