asscher stud earrings

with a pair of asscher stud earrings, .45 pt. each, should the faceting(steps) be just as clear and noticeable as a larger size asscher stone? i'm looking at a pair, and sometimes i think i am just seeing a square unfaceted diamond. does this make any sense? because the stones are small, is that how they will appear, or are these poorly cut? thanks.

Yes. You definitely need a much larger size to appreciate the cut of an Asscher. Even well cut will not show much of anything at that size. I adore them, but would suggest rounds for studs.
