Just wondering what you all think about the following... broker is hesitant to give me a Sarin scan - is that cause for concern? She indicated that it is the same info as what is on the GIA report - which I have.

Here are the stones...

1.71 carat, H, VS1
6.89 x 6.68 x 4.51
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Very Good
Fluorescence - None
Table 63%
Depth 67.5%
asking around $11,300

1.51 carat, G, VS2
6.41 x 6.21 x 4.34
Polish - Very Good
Symmetry - Very Good
Fluorescence - None
Table 66%
Depth 69.9%
asking around $10,250

What do you think? I saw them both in person and prefer the 1.71 to be honest. There were about 5 or 6 in the batch and these 2 were my favorites but I don''t know about value for the money.

Also, are prices generally negotiable?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

as regard the stones: i revert to the experts.

"Also, are prices generally negotiable?" << everything is negotiable. the amount that can be negotiated, might not be monetary always, it''ll vary a lot between online and stores, branded and non-banded etc etc etc

for a regular jewler, in a store - you should be able to knock off 20-25% - easy this year.
online - I offer little guidance. some offer pretty good prices to start and can''t be shaved off too much more. some dont. do your D.D.
branded - I offer no guidance.

anyone who tells you why $X is a good price, and youre getting a deal -- a good rule of thumb is you can get a better one still. and there is still fluff in the price.

it''s like when someone says trust me - i.e., dont

bottom line - cant hurt to ask - just do your own homework (here and at other stores/sites).. come up with a fair price in your head - so your offer makes sense and doesnt seem like you have no clue.

if you dont know what makes sense for a price - you prob shouldnt buy yet

The first one is about $1k over internet pricing.

The second there are some internet stones that hit that high but most are well under by about $1k again.

By the numbers the first one has more potential.

Any pictures? what is the crown height? (they need to run the sarin to get it)

Crown height for both is 16.6%.

What do you think?

What does this affect?

How do I upload the sarins?

Thanks again!

16.6% CH is excellent.

Did you view them in different kinds of lighting?

I did. Office light, daylight and dim light. And I got them "dirty" (finger prints, etc.) and looked at them that way as well.

Would a fair price for the 1.71 be about 10K then based on what I''ve been told about the stats? Or do you think we can do better?

Also, is H something to be concerned about? I couldn''t see much difference between the H & G.

It had some areas that showed more "black" from the back side of the stone. Forgive me, I don''t know what this is called. I thought it added to the vintage aspect of the cut but is this less desirable?

Thanks again for all of your help. I felt so much better going to look at stones today with a few educated questions to ask (and knowledge of the correct answers).

H is fine for most people...

If it speaks to you and you like the patterns that is what counts.
Without pictures I cant say get it or not.

I would offer 10k to start and go up to around 10.6max

Hi Again,

Here are some pics. In the one with 2 stones, it''s the stone on the left.

Thanks so much!

looks better than the one on the right.
I don''t see any red flags.

it is really hard to tell against a white background when taking tweezer shots use a red or back background right behind the diamond.

That said it looks great from what I can tell.

I would work on the price a bit but it looks like you found a really nice asscher that you will enjoy.

Thanks, Karl. I think I would feel comfortable closer to the 10 range based on what I''ve learned here and competitive research. We''ll see what they say.

I''ll definitely let you know how things progress!

Thanks again!!

your welcome!!! :}

They are both really pretty. Be sure, 100% sure, you don''t notice the color difference though. I was very color-sensitive and can easily see color in "H" and "I" asschers...(or step-cuts for that matter).
