I''m trying to buy an engagement ring for my gf who has hinted at asscher/square emerald as her cut of choice -- beyond that, I want to surprise her (and she wants me to surprise her), so I''m doing the rest of the work. I have read practically all of the previous posts regarding Asscher/Square Emerald diamonds, and learned a lot about what the numbers "should" look like, what to look for when viewing an asscher, etc., and have looked at a lot of diamonds online. I found a diamond at a brick and mortar store that I thought looked good, and am now about to pull the trigger . . . but I''m having some hesitation because, frankly, I''m a guy and don''t know what I''m doing. Below are all the stats I have. I realize the stats are only a small part of the equation, but unfortunately that''s all I have to share (no photos or fancy analytical image). Please please let me know if these numbers alarm anyone to issues that I should be looking out for (e.g., dimensions seem off, price seems off, or worse, both seem off). Thank you so much in advance.

2.10 carats
E
VS1
VG/VG (Symmetry/Polish)
Depth: 66.4%
Table: 58%
Measurements: 7.40 x 7.32 x 4.86 mm
Girdle: Medium/Slightly Thick
Fluorescence: None
Culet: None

Cost: $26,000

numbers look good.
Seeing it in person look for patterns in softer lighting and fire in brighter direct lighting.

The price looks ok for a top stone, the top online price is around 12400 a ct for similar combos with some a bit less than that in the 12200ct range.

If you want the best, you really need pics to assess. Have you considered buying online?

strmrdr is our resident asscher expert - if you were willing to purchase from a vendor that provides pics of the stones, he can give you the thumbs up or down on them. If you get a ''kickin'' from stmrdr, then you know you are getting a killer stone. Good luck!

That said, if you heart is set on purchasing from that B&M, then I would take his advice anyway, he is the one to listen to here.

Thanks, Karl -- I was hoping that at least one of the resident experts would reply.

I have a more specific issue I wanted to further inquire about. At least from my recent research, it seemed to me that most of the asschers with similar or even slightly higher weight than this one (2.1 carats) have smaller length and width dimensions than this one. I''ve seen many hover at or below 7 x 7 mm, while this one is at 7.40 x 7.32. While I like the idea that it looks larger from the top, I''m wondering if such dimensions tend to cause some other visual issue that my inexperienced eyes just failed to notice.

So my questions are: Is it an accurate observation that most asschers at this weight have smaller length/width measurements? If the observation is not accurate, I''ll shut up and be happy. If the observation is accurate, do such larger measurements cause you concern regarding quality of the cut -- e.g., if you were going to be viewing this diamond, would you be looking out for some particular issue because of such measurements?

Thanks again.

Yes it is above average in spread and that''s a plus as long as it has proper p3 angles and nice patterns and the table and crown height are in the good range.
With a 58% table(in the good range) as long as it displays nice fire the crown height is fine as you would notice if it wasn''t.
You can always look at the stone from the side and tell also.
So that leaves patterns which you can tell with your eyes also.

Karl or anyone else:

Thanks so much for your input. I have the crown height info -- it''s 13.8% -- and a photo below (although it''s set in front of a bright white background, so the patterns are a bit tough to make out). Additional thoughts? Thanks again.
