hi everyone! so my boyfriend and i have been talking alot about getting engaged in the next few months and have begun the fun process of picking out a ring. i had initially fallen in love with asschers online but did not love the asscher i saw in person (it was 2 carats and i felt it looked very small and dull in person). then we saw a tiffany novo and really liked that. i had settled on the idea of a tiffany novo (replica of course, maybe slightly less than or equal to 2 carats). but today i went to tiffanys with a friend and looked at square emerald cuts and absolutely loved the 3 carat square emerald solitaire. i dont even know if its feasible to find one in our price range. he''s estimating that he''s going to spend about $15,000. do you think we could find a decent asscher for that price? or should i stick to a tiffany novo replica (approx 2 carats). should i even MENTION the 3 carat asscher to him or is that completely crazy and overly expensive???

any help would be greatly appreciated. we are very new to this process.

3 carat is going to be way out of the budget.

am i crazy or do asschers look tiny for their carat size? i felt that the 3 carat asscher was comparable to a 2 carat cushion.

whats your price estimate on a nicely cut 3 carat asscher, best case scenario? just curious. a girl can dream.....

Difficult as I am not good a picking asscher.

But going with trusted vendor, WF has a 3.01c H VS2 at 30k. Not sure how good the cut is for that, looks ok to me but I maybe missing something.

For that budget, you could maybe get a 2ct asscher, depending on how picky you are (please be picky with an asscher!). A 3ct would be completely out of the question, unless you're going to get creative (stalking antique dealers, second hand, etc. etc.) - and even then, it's a big stretch.

It may be a good idea to research what your options are within budget, rather than deciding what you want first then deciding that the budget won't stretch that far!

To answer your other question, no you are not "crazy," asschers do face up small for their carat weight. This is because a well-cut asscher will carry more weight from top to bottom than most other cuts (higher % depth). More weight in the "belly," as it were. You can sacrifice depth for spread, but it will negatively impact the cut.

thanks for the advice. i think im going to go with the tiffany novo replica. its so gorgeous and amazing! i really don''t think i''d be happy with a small asscher, whereas i would be happy with a smaller cushion. plus my boyfriend likes the tiffany novo alot more and i want to include him in the process!
thanks everyone :)
