So after searching all over the place, I''m now getting an asscher golden beryl cut for me by Doug from Bespoke gems! He''s aiming for a 10 x 10 stone. Now after doing some search here, it sounds like it may be too big? I''d like to set it in a ring but I realize it would be a deeper stone. I''m thinking more along the lines of a cocktail ring so I''m not concerned with it being too big for daily wear. But would it be difficult to get a setting made for it? Would it it uncomfortable to wear? Is there anyithing else I need to consider? And does anyone have a stone this size set a ring? I''d love to see pictures.

I own a 9.6 x 9.6 mm cushion set into a halo ring, which although a little smaller than 10 x 10 mm, it should give you a fair idea about the size IRL. My finger size is 4.5. As for what is too big, that’s pretty subjective around here.

However, depending on the final depth, you might have to go custom with the setting, not due to the 10 x 10 mm size but because of the depth needed to pull off a well cut asscher beryl.

Here’s a close up of the ring on the finger.

i think the 9.6 looks great on your finger and the 10.0 is not going to be too big...i still see your finger on the side of the ring pictured.

ps i''m a fan of big rings.............

My ring finger on my left hand is a 6 (on a good day). This cushion sapphire is 9.43 x 10.33 x 6.33mm to give you an idea. I was able to order this ring from LOGR, so even though I paid for it to be made to fit the stone and upgraded the gold and the diamonds, it was still less than a custom ring. It certainly sits up too high for an everyday ring, but too big????? I don't think so!

Your stone sounds gorgeous and a custom ring would be wonderful, but if you want to keep your budget down, this is an option. LOGR also has some solitaire settings that would probably work also if you are looking for a simpler setting.

I forgot to mention that my setting is a regular Stuller. It’s being reset right now, not due to any size issues but because I wanted a custom setting for it.

You''ve mentioned you like big cocktail rings but have you got one that''s very high off the finger? As you''ve mentioned, Asscher cuts are very deep and a 10mm will look substantially bigger I suspect than Chrono''s example above only because it will sit much much higher off the finger.

Personally I love big rings and don''t mind if they''re high either. One thing you do need to watch out for is swivelling. With higher rings, if they''re not snug they will swivel to the side.

Thanks for the pictures, I think they look great! I don't have any rings that are set particularly high, which is why I'm wondering what it woudl be like. I don't think I'd mind it though. Sounds like it's getting the right setting that may be an issue. So would LOGR or something similar customize it to your stone's measurements or would it have to be custom-made. I'm wondering if it would be the same problem with a smaller asscher since it still would be deeper than a standard stone that size?

I know LOGR does customizations of their settings. Define smaller.

Stones with higher RI do not need that extra depth in an asscher cut and smaller asscher cuts might be able to get away with a standard setting as well.

You can buy settings already made BUT you need to choose which one you go for with a bit of care because the basket (underneath the stone) will dictate how high the gem sits and how much of it will poke out of the top! If you look back at your first set of posts you''ll see that I posted a pic of my aqua modified asscher (a very very deep stone) in an LOGR setting with a baguette on either side. I told LOGR how deep my stone was and so they made sure that the prongs were long enough. However, that ring sits very high as I''ve mentioned above.

I have had good luck finding a setting that seems close to the size I need from LOGR and then emailing them and asking if they can make the ring to fit the stone (which is what I did with the yellow sapphire). If you aren''t changing the dimensions by much, it doesn''t cost much for them to make the ring to fit. Be sure to mention the depth of the stone when you ask. This is the one I started out with for the sapphire before the upgrades.

ditto and good points: my rings that sit high and wide [not to mention long] all have euro shanks or a variation thereof.

I have a divine Citrine asscher from Doug which I also orginally wanted as 10MM stone, however when Doug told me how high it was going to be I was shocked and changed it to 7mm instead. Personally I find asschers to be super deep so unless you are ok with high rings, I''d think about trimming it down a little....

Personally, I think its great to have a larger stone, but way to big might look tacky to me. It will also have to depend on your finger size and which finger is the ring on?

Thanks for the links and the advice! I just took my biggest costume jewelry ring and it measures about 9 mm high, which seems just fine to me. Would the asscher be much higher than that? I wonder if getting a custom setting would allow for the stone to be set as close to the finger as possible? I imagine that would help too.

Loving Diamonds - may I ask how deep your aqua is? I think it looks absolutely perfect, at least from the top.

Chictomato - I can definitely wear the ring on my middle finger if its' too big, I definitely don't have dainty hands either, my right hand ring finger was size 6 before having kids and now my size 6 rings don't even fit, so it must be bigger.
