I am looking for an Asscher with the following specs for an engagement ring for my girlfriend:

Color: F-G
Clarity: eye clean SI1 or VS2
Carat: 1.5 to 1.65.

The biggest question I have at this point is evaluating the cut. From reading some of the other forum postings, here is what I have gathered that I should be looking for:

Table: high 50s to low 60s (I presume this means 58% - 62%)?
Depth: 65%-70%
Crown: I''ve seen different opinions here - some say 10%-15% others say high crown between 12%-17%.
Lengh - Width: as close to 1 as possible.
Patterns: best evaluated using an ASET image (windmills, crown arrow, concentric crown pattern extending to edge)

I have 2 Questions as a result of all of this:
1. Can anyone provide any guidance on the two different crown % ranges that I have seen? Most of the stones that I have seen in person were around 17%. Overall I prefer the octagon look to the square emerald (not sure if crown % makes any difference between the two styles)?
2. What other cut attributes should be evaluated? Are there any guidelines for facet slope angles, girdle width %, or any other cut attributes that should be considered?

Thanks in advance, and I will post any images of diamonds I am considering for comment as I proceed further in the process.

if done right 10%-17% maybe even up too 20% is an acceptable crown height.
Most of the well cut ones on the market run around 15%
When you get a lot over 15% there can be some pattern distortion but not always.

Biggest thing is see it in person or get pictures the numbers dont mean a lot.
There are a bunch of totaly different angles that work the key is all the angles working together.

also stay away from si1 i havent seen one yet that was eyeclean.
vs2 and vs1 are the sweet spots of acceptable clarity and price.

Thanks for the info. I will post pictures of any stones that I am considering. Thanks again.

Strm -

I am working with GOG and they found me the following stone. I would love an opinion based on the photos. Also, they have another stone coming in for me in the next day or two, so I will post those images well for a comparison. Thanks in advance.
