I''ve been a lurker here for about 3 months (the length of time I''ve been searching for an engagement ring) and in that time, I''ve come appreciate Pricescope for the wealth of knowledge and input from all you folks. I''ve learned a lot and it will certainly help me make an informative and educated decision when the time finally comes to buy that "perfect" stone.

While this is specifically addressed to Storm, I welcome anyone''s input...

Storm,
I''ve been working with JA (Julianna and Jim) and Whiteflash (Bob) on Asschers in the range of 1.50 to 1.70 cts. I''ve narrowed it down to the following:
JA - 2 stones
1.51 G VS2 (IS and actual image to come)
6.28 x 6.19 x 4.32
Ratio - 1.01
Depth - 69.8
Table 68
Girdle - Thick
Culet - None
Polish/Symmetry - EX/EX
Flourescence - None

1.70 H VS2 (IS attached, actual image to come)
6.58 x 6.56 x 4.57
Ratio - 1.00
Depth - 69.7
Table 62
Girdle - Slightly Thick
Culet - None
Polish/Symmetry - VG/EX
Flourescence - None

Whiteflash - 1 stone
1.51 F VS2 (IS and actual image to come)
6.30 x 6.24 x 4.33
Depth - 69.4
Table 65
Girdle - Thick/Very Thick
Culet - None
Polish/Symmetry - EX/VG
Flourescence - Faint

I''m comfortable with both vendors - they''ve been great to work with; prices are within $600 of each other, with the JA 1.51 G VS2 actually being the most expensive at $10,600; with JA 1.70 next at $10k; and the Whiteflash 1.51 at just under $10k. So the decision really comes down to the best stone out of these three. I appreciate any input you can provide.

Thanks,
AshrGuy

Here''s the 1.70 H VS2 actual image.

And finally - the 1.70 H VS2 Ideal Scope image.

I also wanted to post a pic comparison between the JA''s 1.51 G (1st from left) and 1.70 H (3rd from left). The stone in the middle is also a JA 1.70 H VVS2, but was ruled out due to various factors.
Thanks!

edit never mind misread...
will repost in a second...

Sorry about that I missed the table size on the first one.
It is really nice for a larger tabled stone but one I would likely pass on.

The 1.70H looks real nice if you like small windmills.
If you do its one well worth buying.

Really appreciate the quick input Storm. The 1.70 is the one I really had my eye on, glad you agree. The windmills don''t bother me, considering all other parameters are as close to my ideal as I''ve been able to find in the last 3 months. Thanks again!

welcome and don''t forget the pics when you get it!

Storm,
Another question - this 1.7ct stone has a few feathers, what looks to be along the edge of the stone... Does that represent an issue in terms of potential breakage? I''ve attached the GIA report.
Thanks again.

No issues
They are VS2 and its an asscher.

Very good. Can''t thank you enough for the advice.
On my way to pick the setting and will post pics soon.
Best,
Mike

P.S. - I understand the VS2 comment, but do Asschers have a stronger structural integrity? ...sorry for the Star Trek reference :)

hehe yes...
Girdle - Slightly Thick <-- strong
Plus by the very design they have a lot of meat over the girdle area.
Cleavage planes are a bit of an issue but overall they are one of the toughest cuts.
